If someone asks, how can one be certain of understanding how to cultivate the illusory body? Listen, you who possess wisdom! I shall establish this extremely difficult point to understand through authentic methods of practice. There are four points to this: Cultivating the cause of the Form Body through uncommon means; Cultivating the essential point of what is to be purified through uncommon means; Cultivating by relying on the essential point of how to generate the deity; Cultivating by relying on the essential point of the inseparability of the nature of skillful means and wisdom. The first point is: From the Ornament of Clear Realization: "For the sake of others, one desires perfect enlightenment." As, for example, when one is tormented by thirst, the main thing one seeks is a drink, but as a means to obtain it, one seeks a vessel. Likewise, great vehicle practitioners, unable to bear the torment of sentient beings' suffering and their lack of happiness, are moved by great compassion, and therefore the main thing they seek is the benefit of others. However, they see that unless they attain Buddhahood, they cannot accomplish this perfectly by any other means. Therefore, as a means to that end, they seek perfect Buddhahood. This is similar in both Mantra and the Great Vehicle of the Perfections, because there is no difference in the generation of the mind of enlightenment. Thus, what directly appears to sentient beings and accomplishes their benefit is the Form Body among the two bodies, not the Dharma Body, so the main thing to be sought is the Form Body. Therefore, in the practice of the Completion Stage, a special method similar to the cause of the Form Body is needed, an unsurpassed and excellent characteristic that is not present in other vehicles, other tantras, or the preliminary stages. If there is no wisdom that realizes emptiness, one cannot attain liberation from the bonds of samsara. Although such wisdom is also present in the Lesser Vehicle, because it lacks the complete aspect of the skillful means for the cause of the Form Body, no matter how much one meditates on emptiness, one will only attain liberation from existence, but not omniscience. Therefore, it is indispensable to have the realization of emptiness in the various methods of the cause of the Form Body. However, in order for the realization of emptiness to specifically enter into the Dharma Body, it is also necessary to cultivate the complete aspect of skillful means, which is the view of both the Great Vehicle paths.

However, in the Mahāyāna of the Pāramitā, although there is the practice of the path corresponding to the Dharmakāya, there is no practice of the deity's body corresponding to the Rūpakāya. Therefore, there are superior and inferior aspects in the means of the Rūpakāya. Whether or not the two bodies and the two paths corresponding to the two bodies need to be practiced is equally important. Moreover, this needs to be considered as the path of all four classes of tantras, and so on. Since these have already been explained in detail in the stages of the Vajradhara's path, they will not be elaborated here. Furthermore, the deity yoga of the lower three classes of tantras is an extremely distant cause of the Rūpakāya in relation to the Anuttarayoga. Even the deity yogas of the first stage of Anuttarayoga are merely maturing the roots of virtue for the arising of the realization of the Completion Stage. Therefore, a Completion Stage deity yoga that far surpasses it is needed, generally as a cause of the Rūpakāya, and especially as a cause of the similar kind of marks and signs that are the proximate cause of the resultant Rūpakāya at the end of the Completion Stage of the path of learning. In this regard, in the Pāramitāyāna, as a cause of the Rūpakāya, generally, many accumulations of merit are needed, and especially, it is necessary to obtain the ground of accumulating merit for many lifetimes, such as welcoming and sending off the guru, as the cause of each of the marks and signs, thereby obtaining a body corresponding to the resultant marks and signs. Moreover, this will become better and better as the levels rise, until in the last existence, one obtains all the ultimate marks and signs of the path of learning of that path. Then, it is said that when he attains Buddhahood, the previous similar kind of marks and signs of that body will become the cause of the similar kind of resultant marks and signs. It is not possible to suddenly transform without having previously obtained a body with marks and signs. Similarly, even for attaining Buddhahood in one lifetime through the path of Anuttarayoga, it is not said that one needs to obtain a body adorned with marks and signs merely upon the accomplishment of the body. Even if one does not obtain a body adorned with marks and signs on the path of learning, it is not possible to suddenly transform the body because there is no similar kind of cause. Therefore, it is necessary to obtain a body adorned with marks and signs from the stage of the path of learning of the Completion Stage. And this coarse body of ripening is not generated into a body adorned with marks and signs by meditating on the deity yoga. Merely visualizing as the deity's body with the mind, as in the stage of the Generation Stage.
