It seems that it is said that it is for the teaching of union (Tibetan: zung 'jug), because the previous three solitudes (Tibetan: dben gsum) do not necessarily have to show a unique way of leading the latter. In order to avoid annihilationism, the path taught will give rise to eternalism; if the path to avoid it gives rise to annihilationism, it is like an elephant bathing, so the path is not correct. As it is said in the Compendium of Conduct (Tibetan: spyod bsdus): "Because it is separated from the conventional truth, it is not possible to directly realize the ultimate truth." Therefore, in order to directly realize the clear light, it is necessary to first realize the illusory body, that is, it must be obtained. Therefore, in order to directly realize the clear light, it is necessary to explain the reason from the aspect that the illusory body must be generated first. Why should the reason be explained that in order to abandon attachment to illusion, one must enter the clear light? The reasons for the order of mind solitude, illusion, clear light, and union must also be explained in the same way, but if other things are explained, then the core is not seen. Furthermore, saying that mind solitude is taught in order to understand that the two, body and speech, are integrated into the mind is a fault of not carefully examining how the object and aspect of mind solitude arise. As it is said in the Compendium of Conduct (Tibetan: spyod bsdus), after truly knowing the true meaning of the mind, one begins to practice the illusory body. Therefore, in mind solitude, if the doubt of the mind's clinging to reality is not eliminated, it is meaningless to cut it off later with the illusory body, because it has already been said that when practicing the generation stage, one must clearly ascertain the meaning of emptiness. The middle way school believes that by the power of subduing the winds through speech solitude, mind solitude can be guided; mind solitude is the basis for practicing the illusory body; through the illusory body and the two meditations, one enters the clear light, and the clear light must be directly realized; in order to accomplish one aspect of union, the reason why clear light must precede is very good. However, for the reasons for the order of the first two solitudes, using the example of the lute to explain the meaning, it seems that the commonality of the example and the meaning must first be established, so this is not enough. The reasons for determining the order of one's own system will be explained when determining the number. The third part is divided into two points: the meaning of the main text, and the way other paths are integrated into this path. The first point is, as it is said in the Compendium of Conduct (Tibetan: spyod bsdus), the path has a sequence.

As previously mentioned regarding the method of learning, it is said that once dual union is attained, there is no need to newly learn the stages of the path. In the Five Stages, it is also said, "Abiding in the samadhi of dual union, one no longer learns anything else." Therefore, they say that there is nothing that is not included in these stages of the path, and that it is necessary to practice these stages. In order to not need other paths that are not included therein, the greater number (of stages) is eliminated; if these (stages) are lacking, it cannot be done, so the lesser number (of stages) is also eliminated. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the number. Even so, the reason for determining the number is not explicitly stated in the Two Tantras and by the Father and Sons (teachers). On this, Laksmi says: The three isolations purify by completely isolating the three of body, speech, and mind; the clear light purifies by completely isolating the truths of conventional and ultimate; dual union attains Vajradhara, in whom the two truths are of one taste, so from then on there is nothing to be practiced, therefore six stages are not necessary. Merely through what was said before, the desired meaning is accomplished, so it is also not four stages, therefore the number is determined to be five stages. Kadampa Drakpa Gyaltsen says: The first three are the same as before. Through the purification of the three doors, one blesses oneself in order to benefit sentient beings. To this, one abandons manifest clinging through clear light. One abandons its extreme through dual union. From then on there is nothing to be practiced, therefore there are not six stages. If those two are not present, the benefit of oneself and others cannot be accomplished, therefore it is also not fewer. The earlier scholars of Tibet were, taking as a premise the suppression of manifest obscurations and the destruction of seeds from the root, determined the number to be six stages. Like this, in order to suppress manifest afflictions and conceptual thoughts, it is established as the three isolations. On the support of calm abiding and bliss-emptiness, there is body isolation; because the winds are controlled, there is no arising of conceptual thoughts, so speech isolation is the cause; mind isolation is the effect, because bliss-emptiness arises in the continuum relying on the consort. The illusory body realizes the emptiness of objects, therefore it abandons the seeds of apprehended conceptual thoughts that cling to the apprehended as self-existent; the clear light realizes the emptiness of mind, therefore it abandons the seeds of grasping conceptual thoughts that cling to the grasper as mind; dual union is in order to abandon the seeds that cling to the two truths as different. Those to be abandoned
