When pointing something out to others with a fingertip, if people do not look at the object being pointed out, but only look at the fingertip doing the pointing, then clinging to the literal meaning is the same as that, so those who want to understand the meaning should abandon it. This statement is quoted. The way to apply this quote here is that merely knowing that the short A is contained within all speech, without seeking the very nature of A, is like the previous example, so one should seek the very nature of that letter. What is its meaning? Here, the short A, which is said to be the root of mantra, is the indestructible bindu within the Avadhuti (Tibetan transliteration) in the center of the heart chakra. It is unchanging, supreme, and subtle, therefore A is the principal and sacred. A is said to be the most excellent and meaningful of all vowel and consonant letters, and this refers to that. Knowing that the letter is sacred also means unchanging and supreme, because the Sanskrit word for letter, Akshara (Sanskrit Devanagari: अक्षर, Sanskrit Romanization: akṣara, Chinese literal meaning: unchanging), means unchanging, and the Sanskrit word for sacred, Parama (Sanskrit Devanagari: परम, Sanskrit Romanization: parama, Chinese literal meaning: supreme), applies to both sacred and supreme. Arising from emptiness, without birth. To this statement, Chak translated: The great life has no letter. Therefore, the wind of the indestructible bindu is the supreme life wind, and the absence of letter means the absence of the form of a letter. Abandoning verbal expression also means that it is not an object that can be conceived by any language. The root of all expressions and the clarifier of all words, because it is the root cause of all winds, therefore the winds that arise in dependence on it generate language and words. The meaning of A is unborn is to show the meaning of luminosity as the meaning of A, that is, if the meaning of the indestructible A letter of the heart chakra becomes manifest, then that is said to be the realization of that very nature. But this is not merely showing a general unborn emptiness, because that alone is common with the Paramita Vehicle. Therefore, it is unreasonable for knowing this to depend on the explanatory tantras. Therefore, quoting "that which is called A" is also quoting what comes from the tantras, not what comes from the sutras. Therefore, it is not contradictory to say that the meaning of the very nature of the letter A cannot be known except by those who have entered Anuttarayoga. Therefore, the key point of explaining the root short A of mantra as the indestructible bindu is that the mantras of vowels and consonants are also not external letters.
