It should be understood from the explanation in the "Lamp Illuminating" treatise. Regarding the meaning of the two stages, in the commentary on Kalachakra, the "Garland of Jewels," it says: "The generation of the deity's form through mantras and mudras, etc., is the generation of the yogi; wherever that exists, that is the generation stage. Completion is co-emergence, that is, the practitioner's own nature of co-emergence, believing that to be its very nature; wherever the yogi should meditate, that is the completion stage." As it is said, the former is as previously explained, and the latter is one aspect of the completion stage, so the deity's form is also necessary. The stage is, as explained in that commentary, to be understood as form, part, or aspect, not as a temporal sequence. Kelsang Dorje said, "Generation is so called because it generates the moon, etc. The other is the stage. Completion is the wisdom of great emptiness, which is perfectly present in method, or because of that perfection, qualities are perfected, so it is completion. The other is the stage." Although it is explained in this way, the previous explanation is more reasonable. Secondly, in the Uttaratantra of the Guhyasamaja, it says: "The Dharma taught by the Buddhas is perfectly established in two stages, namely the generation stage and the completion stage." If the stages of the path are thus determined to be two, what is the reason? Because both stages have the mandala of deities on the side of appearance and the meditation on emptiness, the number is not determined by the deity and emptiness. Therefore, the reason for determining two stages is that the Guhyasamaja Uttaratantra says: "Through the distinction of common and supreme, recitation is considered to be of two kinds: the common is the four vajras, and the supreme is the six limbs." As it is said, because there are two kinds of accomplishments to be obtained, temporary and ultimate, the method of achieving them must also be two stages. Among the two common ones, the common cause is that the first stage, practicing supreme accomplishment and the eight siddhis, etc., must be generated in the continuum of both accomplishments. The common result, the accomplishments of the eight siddhis, etc., becomes the result of both stages. The meaning of that tantra is, as the "Lamp Illuminating" says: "Thus, through the sequence of the four unions, Vajrasattva..."

Having shown how to please, now it is declared that the great Vajradhara is perfected through the sequence of the six limbs. As it is said, therefore, it can be determined that pleasing Vajrasattva and perfecting are two stages, so it must be two sequences. Regarding the first meaning, the "Lamp Illuminating" says: If one trains in four sessions with constant constancy, the roots of virtue will be fully matured, and one will realize the vajra-like samadhi and attain the siddhi of the great mudra in this very life. As it is said, therefore, just as it was said before, gathering many conditions with special dependent origination, one makes the continuum mature. The four combinations are: Approach and accomplishment, the four limbs. Third, for the continuum that has been matured by the generation stage, if it is not matured by the arising of the completion stage, then even if some parts of the completion stage arise, a completion stage that can travel the path will not arise, therefore, it is often said to first practice the generation stage and then practice the completion stage. As in the example of the boat spoken of in the Vajra Dakini, it is also explained in the same way in the dissolving bindu and the spring bindu. In the second chapter of the later examination of the "Two Examinations," it also says: With the yoga of the generation stage, the ascetic meditates on elaboration, considering elaboration as a dream, elaboration itself is non-elaboration. And, in the "Five Stages" it also says: Well-abiding in the generation stage, for those who desire the completion stage, this method is said by the complete Buddha to be like a ladder sequence. And, in the "Compendium of Conduct" it also says: Sentient beings with initial karma, for entering the supreme meaning, this method is established by the complete Buddha as a ladder sequence. And, Dabih Heruka also says: The wise one first practices the generation stage, and the hand mudras, and the mantra is pure, hooking, generating, armor, all must be remembered without forgetting. Afterwards, the wise one rejoices and continuously possesses that one mind for a moment. Having practiced the completion stage, one completely abandons existence and always contemplates the co-emergent. As it is said. Therefore, if one is not guided by the first stage but guided by the second stage, it contradicts all the scriptures, therefore, from the depths of one's heart, wanting to practice the path of great yoga,
