Secondly, there are two types: meditation with recitation and meditation without recitation. First, there are three parts: how to act before the four branches of recitation, the actual meditation of the four branches of recitation, and how to act after the meditation of the four branches of recitation. First, there are four parts: how to act in the residence initially, the manner of bathing outside and entering the practice room, entering the Dharma and sitting on the seat to bless the offerings, and protecting oneself and the place. The first is: just like one day, in the first session, at the time of getting up from bed in the morning, and at the beginning of the other sessions, whichever of the three families one is practicing, one should bind the mudra of the vow of that family and recite the secret mantra. For that, with the palms open, slightly bend the two index fingers and place them on the head, reciting: Om Tathagata Udbhava ye Svaha. Then, with the palms joined together in the manner of an open lotus, place them at the heart, reciting: Om Padma Udbhava ye Svaha. Then, turn the palms over and join them, joining the two thumbs and two little fingers, and place them directly in front of the navel, reciting: Om Vajra Udbhava ye Svaha. These are, in order, the mantra mudras of the Tathagata family, such as Ushnishavijaya, the Padma family, such as Avalokiteshvara, and the Vajra family, such as Vajravidāraṇa. Then, focusing on all the Buddhas of the ten directions, recite: Om Sarva Tathagata Kaya Vaka Citta Vajra Pranamena Sarva Tathagata Vajra Pada Vandananam Karomi. With this mantra, prostrate to their feet. Then, offer the body, saying to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas residing in the ten directions: Until reaching the essence of enlightenment, I offer myself at all times, please accept me, Buddhas and great Bodhisattvas, please grant me the supreme accomplishment. Then recite: I take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the supreme Sangha, until enlightenment. In order to accomplish the benefit of myself and others, I generate the mind of enlightenment. All the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas residing in the ten directions, please listen. For the sake of perfect enlightenment, from today I generate the mind of enlightenment.

Thus, take refuge and generate the mind of enlightenment. Then, protect yourself with the mantra and mudra of the wrathful one, free from defilement. The mudra is to cross the fingers of both hands, hold them in fists, and raise the two little fingers together. The tips of the index fingers are joined like a needle, and the two thumbs are placed upright.
