Those Bodhisattvas who practice the secret mantra path of Bodhisattva conduct should be initiated into the mandala of the vidyā-mantra of great wisdom. Those whose bodhicitta is not yet perfected should not be initiated, nor should they be allowed to see the mandala. Mudras and mantras should be shown to them. It is said that bodhicitta should be perfected before initiation. Therefore, one should first cultivate the aspiring and engaging minds of bodhicitta before entering. The order is as follows: first, one should properly rely on a qualified Mahayana spiritual friend with thought and action. He should explain the difficulty and importance of leisure, and through cultivating the mind, one should generate a great desire to take the essence of leisure. The best way to take the essence is to enter the Mahayana, and the gateway to it is bodhicitta. If there is a true bodhicitta in one's mind, then one's Mahayana practice will not be artificial. If it is only in words, then one's Mahayana practice will also be only in words. Therefore, the wise should gradually eliminate the opposing factors of that mind and generate a complete bodhicitta. To do this, if one does not first turn one's mind away from this life, it will be an obstacle to the path of both the Great and Small Vehicles. Therefore, one should remember death, which does not remain in this life, and contemplate the ways in which one wanders in the lower realms after death, and turn one's mind away from this life. Then, one should turn away from the desire for the perfections of future lives by contemplating all the faults of samsara, and turn one's mind towards liberation. After that, in order to turn away from the mind that is peaceful for oneself, one should cultivate love and compassion for a long time, and the bodhicitta that is the root of it, and cultivate the bodhicitta that is not artificial. Then, one should learn about the practices of the Bodhisattvas and generate the desire to learn, and if one is able to take on the burden of the practices of the Bodhisattvas, one should take the vows of the Bodhisattva and learn its precepts. Then, if one is able to take on the burden of the Vajrayana vows and precepts, one should listen to the Fifty Verses on the Guru, purify the way of relying on the Guru, and then enter the mantra.

Ya, furthermore, the 'Fifty Verses on the Guru' states: 'A disciple with pure intention, having taken refuge in the Three Jewels, should be given the practice of following the Guru. Then, by bestowing mantras and the like, one becomes a vessel for the sacred Dharma.' Thus, it is said that the 'Fifty Verses on the Guru' should be taught to those who possess pure intention, that is, have cultivated the mind of Bodhicitta, and have uncommon refuge. It is also said that after giving the 'Fifty Verses on the Guru,' one should be made a vessel through empowerment. In the 'Lamp of Clear Union,' it also says: 'Thus, the order of this is, on an auspicious day, such as the first day or a lucky star, the disciple should fold their hands respectfully, confess all sins, and take the Three Refuges. Cultivate Bodhicitta well, and take the lay vows, as well as the Bodhisattva vows, and then observe the fast. This corresponding order should also rely on the excellent conduct of the Vajra Acharya, but here, due to the extensive text, it is not written out of fear. Having done this, request the Lama: Please grant me empowerment.' Thus, it is said that before empowerment, one should first take the Pratimoksha vows and the Bodhisattva's aspiration and precepts, and then request the Lama for the sake of empowerment. The lay vows and their fasting retreat are for householders, while ordained individuals entering mantra must purify the vows of novice monks and so on. In the first chapter of the 'Compendium of Practices,' it also says that one must study in sequence, not all at once. After confirming this, it is said: 'The order is that one should first study the intention of the Buddha Vehicle. When one has become accustomed to the intention of the Buddha Vehicle, then one should study the new vehicle, that is, the Samadhi of one-pointed concentration.' Thus, it is said that after first studying the Buddha Vehicle, one needs to study the new vehicle, that is, mantra. Therefore, the intention of the Buddha Vehicle is the aspiring and engaging Bodhicitta. Thus, after generating the aspiring and engaging Bodhicitta, one must possess the practice of the six perfections. This is not a matter of covering back from the Paramitas, but of studying those paths from the mantra itself, because it is repeatedly proclaimed, so it is the common path arising from the Vajrayana itself. These are extensively discussed in the common vehicle.
