Without interruption, they suffer torment; Reflecting on the state of such mothers, Generate the supreme mind of bodhicitta. If you lack the wisdom to realize the nature of reality, Even if you cultivate renunciation and the mind of bodhicitta, You will not be able to cut the root of existence. Therefore, strive to realize the meaning of dependent origination. Whatever phenomena of samsara and nirvana, Seeing that their cause and effect are never deceptive, And all objects of focus are destroyed, That is entering the path pleasing to the Buddhas. The appearance of dependent origination is not deceptive, And the understanding of emptiness is free from assertions. As long as these two appear separately, You have not yet realized the intent of the Buddha. When, without alternating, simultaneously, From merely seeing that dependent origination is not deceptive, All grasping of objects of certainty is destroyed, Then the investigation of view is complete. Furthermore, appearance dispels the extreme of existence, And emptiness dispels the extreme of non-existence, and emptiness itself Appears as cause and effect; knowing this, You will not be robbed by extremist views. Thus, when you have realized the essence of the three principal aspects of the path As they are, by yourself, Rely on solitude and generate the strength of diligence, And quickly accomplish the ultimate goal, my son. This was advised to Tsa-kho Ponpo Ngagwang Drakpa by the monk of vast learning, Pal of Lozang Drakpa. May the activities of the supreme guide, the successor of that Victorious One, As well as the treasure of wisdom, Nagarjuna, and the feet of The noble Asanga, always enter into you, the fortunate one! Whose vast intellect is as vast as the sky, Whose outstanding faith is as firm as the king of mountains, And who never tires of the burden of the teachings, The spiritual friend known as Ngagwang Drakpa, That supreme practitioner of discipline, from the two great chariots, The path of the three individuals, well transmitted, The ocean of excellent explanations, the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, By the garland of letters, bestowed glory upon the eyes, And the mind that discerns meaning is satiated with nectar. With a letter that is pleasing to the ear and falls upon the mind, And a supreme garment of thin, soft, and light maroon cloth, Along with a pair of boots as a support, were sent and received. Just as a newlywed enjoys the taste of vegetables, Even if one cultivates the excellent explanations for a long time, It is difficult to become weary.

The gustatory sense organ experiences tastes as they are, / The brief experience is amazing. / Nowadays, genuine and seemingly so, / Distinguishing the paths is extremely rare. / Perhaps one in a hundred, but to know well-spoken words as well-spoken, / To truly understand is just like that. / Therefore, the essence of the profound and vast path, / Even the smallest ones genuinely find certainty, / When I see it written down, my mind, / Is satisfied by obtaining the fruit of long labor. / The state attained by the Lord of Dharma himself, wishing to lead sentient beings directly and indirectly, he taught the order of sutras and tantras, the establishment of the path to liberation and omniscience arising from the sutras. By this, grasping the root of the general Buddhist teachings, adding the path of tantras to some excellent disciples, thereby holding the complete Buddhist teachings, this is the view of all Tibetan and Indian scholars who see all scriptures as instructions. I, too, in order to realize this meaning, have relied on the borderlands for many years, based on keeping the vows I have taken, striving for the causes of practice that cultivate many conditions of accumulation and purification, and the cultivation of the body of the path, so that I have seen only a rough direction of the path of sutra and tantra that pleases the wise. Completely motivated by the sole focus on the teachings, I first wrote down the stages of the path of the common vehicle. In this, whether the body of the path is complete or not, and how to determine the order of the path, and how to guide from the smallest parts of the path by practicing, and in particular, clearly explaining the meaning of the great treatises on tranquility and insight, these, when the desire to practice arises from the depths of the heart, seeing that it is necessary to determine the great treatises that are the measure of the key points of practice and abandon them, and when the intention to strive for practice does not arise, striving for these day and night, without turning the mind to how to indicate practice, merely regarding them as words, becoming a branch of the wise, if one merely touches the general words emphasizing the meaning of each treatise in many different ways, one thinks that those have been completely accomplished, let alone a time like the present. Wise people of former times, the debt of this life
