Pearls are the domain of the Buddha, while others vary accordingly. Armor and the like are the domain of the king and his retinue. If asked, what is most important? Roughly speaking, for the possessions of householders, local customs are most important, while what the self-born Buddha has said is most important. In detail, first, before death, it must be determined, then the debtor, then the sick, then the designation, lineage is the domain of man. If it is said that the meaning of the word is held by the lineage of man, then is that which is carried away by the wind and the like separated from the owner or not? If the tailor's clothes and the monk's utensils are carried away by the wind and thieves, etc., and the owner abandons the thought of ownership, then it is not separated from the original owner, and if taken initially, it will be a defeat, and if taken later, it will be blamed. Abandoning the thought of ownership later becomes taking what is not given. If it is said to be held by the lineage of man, then what happens if one steals the livestock of a human owner? For possessions that do not understand worldly language, the owner who manages and cares for them is the owner. If both possess, then it is determined by concept, like an ornament worn by a bird, if one thinks this is human, how can a bird have it? Then the value should be assessed, and if the opposite, it will be blamed. Is the same distinction made for stealing livestock's food and drink? It is said to be food and drink. If forest fires and the like kill wild animals and the like, then who is the owner? It is said to be internal, if taken with the thought of stealing that is not permitted, it becomes a thief, even if there is another owner, but at that time only the one who is permitted possesses it. Mentioning wild animals and the like is symbolic, livestock and permitted people, whether with or without an owner, are the same. How is downfall determined for possessions whose owner is uncertain? If one steals any treasure or the like that cannot be distinguished as having an owner or not, then downfall is determined from the very nature of the basis. Not from concept, if it has an owner, then if the limbs are complete, it is a defeat, and if it has no owner, it is a gross offense. To conceive of what is not an owner as an owner
