It should be initiated with great devotion and joy. The second case is, if oneself is a renunciate, and the Vajra master is a householder, or if oneself has already received the Bhikshu vows, but the master, although a renunciate, has not received the Bhikshu vows, but is a young Shramanera, then should one serve as previously mentioned? The sutra says: To avoid worldly criticism, for householders or Shramaneras, one should use seven sacred objects as a medium, and mentally pay homage to the one who holds the vows. This means that if oneself is a renunciate, and the master is a householder, etc., in general, there is a need to prostrate, etc. When related to these situations, one should place scriptures and other sacred objects, including Buddha statues, etc., in front, and actually prostrate to these objects with the body, while paying homage to the master with the mind. This is done because if one directly prostrates with the body, it will be criticized by the world for the Buddha's teachings. This is done to avoid this situation. If there is no criticism, then it is not necessary to do so. The "holder of vows" here refers to the vows of renunciates, that is, the basis for holding the vows of Shramaneras, etc. If one does not directly prostrate to the master who is a householder, etc., with the body, does that mean that one should not do all the services to the master? The sutra says: Laying out the seat, standing up to greet, and serving in handling affairs, etc., all should be done by the one who holds the vows, but prostration and impure things should be avoided. This means that prostrating with five limbs and impure things such as washing feet should be avoided. Apart from these, all services should be done by the disciple who holds the vows. So, what are these services? They are laying out the seat for the master, standing up to greet in advance, and helping the master with his affairs, offering wealth, etc. Here, in the "Short Commentary on Chakrasamvara," it is said that even if the master is a householder or a Shramanera, one should serve by laying out the seat, etc., but one should not serve by prostrating and washing feet, etc. Not prostrating refers to times other than when teaching the Dharma. When teaching the Dharma, one should place scriptures, etc., in front and prostrate. This is what the Bhagavan said in the sutra. In "Vimalaprabha," the explanations of these two sutras are also done in this way, and in the "Short Commentary on Chakrasamvara," Bhikshu

It is said that for the Vajra Holder Guru, even if the discipline is young, all services such as prostrations should be performed. Regarding this, the Shravaka school believes that some ordained from the Mahayana Vinaya Pitaka prostrate to some lay people. However, the Vinaya states that the objects of prostration must be Shakyamuni Buddha and those who are senior to oneself in monastic vows, which contradicts each other, therefore Mahayana is not the Buddha's word. To answer this dispute, the ordained cite many sutras as the basis for lay Bodhisattvas to prostrate, and determine through debate, which is recorded in 'Speculation Burning'. Therefore, in general, monks do not necessarily have to prostrate to someone like a lay Guru Vajra Holder. However, doing so is detrimental to the Vinaya discipline, which is the root of the teachings, and there is a large element of prohibition, so to avoid this situation, it is said not to prostrate. If in some places this prohibition has completely disappeared, then in those places it is necessary to prostrate. Even if there is a monk Vajra Holder, one should not take a lay Vajra Holder as a Guru, as stated in 'Stainless Light', also because one should be very respectful of the Vinaya, because relying on it, the teachings can abide for a long time. Regarding this situation, Some great Vajra Acharyas say that lay people and newly ordained are not Vajra Acharyas, this is the idea before becoming a Vajra Acharya, otherwise it contradicts the previous statement that even the Buddhas prostrate to the Vajra Acharya, this statement is unreasonable. Because this is a special explanation for the former when the prohibition is large, and if it is not related to the Vajra Acharya, it will become inappropriate. Third, regarding examining the object of respect and the support, there are reasons for mutual examination, and the way to accept and reject after examination. First, then, for the Guru who is the object of respect and the disciple who respects, should the teacher-student relationship be done without examination, or after examination? The verse says: 'Guru and disciple, equally break vows, the hero first examines, the relationship of teacher and student.' It means that the hero here refers to both the recipient and the receiver of the Vajrayana blessing, that is, those who have not received the Vajrayana blessing.
