The Explanation of the Fifty Verses on the Guru: Fulfilling the Hopes of Students The Explanation of the Fifty Verses on the Guru: Fulfilling the Hopes of Students ༄༅། །Herein lies the Explanation of the Fifty Verses on the Guru: Fulfilling the Hopes of Students. Namo Guru Manjughoshaya. Though being the father of all Buddhas, he is also in the form of a youthful prince. Though breathing life into beings with his gentle voice, he also terrifies the hordes of demons. Though always abiding above all, he also serves as a servant to beings. May the wondrous deeds of Manjushri always protect us. If one relies upon him properly, all collections of goodness, He is the single door that easily bestows them. The fifty ways of relying on a holy spiritual friend, I shall explain as much as I am able. As it is said in the first chapter of the King of Tantras, the Net of Magical Illusion: "Briefly, the first accomplishment is, Following the teacher. If there is no teacher, Accomplishment will not be attained. Therefore, the qualities of a teacher should be explained." As it is said, the root of supreme and common accomplishments lies in properly relying on a holy spiritual friend. Therefore, I shall explain this, which is called "The Fifty Verses on the Guru," which shows the ways of relying on the guru in fifty verses. This explanation has three parts: the activity of entering the explanation, the explanation itself being closely presented, and the activity of completing the explanation. The first has two parts: praise and the pledge to compose. The first is: "The glorious Vajrasattva's state, becoming the cause, The guru's lotus feet, having paid homage as is, Having paid homage," it shows. To whom is homage paid? It is to the guru's feet placed upon a lotus, showing extreme reverence by holding the lowest part of the body. How is homage paid? It is "as is," that is, paying homage to the guru with the three doors of body, speech, and mind, as it appears in the scriptures. What kind of guru is he? It is "glorious," etc. As it is said in the seventh chapter of the first section of the Vajra Tent: "Shri is non-dual wisdom." Thus, the glorious non-dual wisdom is the very nature of the Vajrasattva's state or the root cause of attaining the rank. Vajrasattva.

This is an explanation of the Sixteen Heart Bodhisattvas of the Vajra Peak. Why is it Vajrasattva? What is the supreme Bodhi wisdom? That is undoubtedly the Vajra. That which arises from the wisdom Vajra is called Vajrasattva. As it is said, the most supreme of the three Bodhis, inseparable from that one Dharmakaya wisdom, is the Vajra, and the Rupakaya that arises from that is the Sattva, thus it is Vajrasattva. Secondly, the word "te" here is to introduce the remainder, so what is to be done after connecting? Serving it, as stated in the Immaculate Tantra: "This brief explanation, please listen with reverence." As it is said, serving it, that is, to explain the reason for serving the Guru, so like this, it is not just talking, but to listen with great reverence, this is an exhortation to the listeners. Among them, abandoning self-creation means: if the reason for serving the Guru is just your own idea, then it is not credible, you will wonder what you are talking about? This is stated in many Immaculate Tantras, so it should be believed. From which Tantra is it stated? It will be explained below. Even so, it is enough to understand from those Tantras, isn't your writing meaningless? Although those Tantras also have it, they are very complicated, upside down, and scattered everywhere, so here it is briefly collected and explained, it is not meaningless. This dispels the doubt that the fiftieth chapter and the Tantras are repetitive, so there is no need to write. Secondly, the content of what is said is again summarized into three: the reason for serving the Guru, the time for explaining the reason for serving, and how to become a capable vessel after explaining. The first part has three: generally explaining the reason for serving, its special circumstances, and summarizing the key points of serving. The first part has two: the actual meaning and the incidental meaning. The first part has two: briefly explaining the reason for serving the Guru and explaining in detail. The first part has three: the reason why the Guru should be respected, the way to practice respect, and observing the object and basis of respect. The first is: the Guru who obtains empowerment, bestows the supreme position, and the Vajra, is the Tathagata, the ten directions.
