He had already left. I thought he would come tomorrow night, but he didn't come. When I went to check, I found his monastic robes, hat, and rosary of Bodhi seeds hanging on a juniper tree. The master had passed away into complete nirvana. This, in the Great Perfection of Naturalness, is one of the ways of dying of the sky and the dakinis, and the ways of dying of the fire and the vidyadharas. When Spa Gompa was twenty-four years old, Nyang Sher Jung gave him instructions. This Spa Gompa stayed in the monastery as a lay devotee. His name was Yeshe Jangchub. He possessed extraordinary realization. He could make stones like mud, and imprint his body on rocks. At the age of ninety-eight, he passed away without illness. Jomo Gangmo did not allow outsiders to see the corpse, but cremated it in the temple. A rainbow-like light went into the sky, which everyone outside saw. Afterwards, not even a single bone remained. His disciple was Dzeng, whose mother was named Tsargukyide, the mother of Yarlung Tangchungpa. The eldest son of Tangchung Tsenpo married her, and Dzeng was born. When he was sixteen years old, he went to Döl Dongna for business with some fellow travelers. In Tserchung of Döl, many people were gathered. When he went to check, he learned that he had met the Indian saint and followed him as an attendant for fourteen months. When he arrived at the foundation of Tsang, Sangyen, the saint gave him a piece of coarse cloth and said, "He is impatient, you go back to your homeland. Bring some barley from Dakpo. Your companions who are going to Döl are there." So Dzeng set out on his way. The saint came hurrying back, grabbed Dzeng's two collars and said, "It is nothing, only the place has changed. When the place has changed, there is no duality." After saying this, he hit his head twice, and a clear light arose from a dazed mind. His mouth seemed to be filled with water, which was the blessing of the saint. It was prophesied that he would meet the Vajra Bridge, but he did not understand it later. The saint gave some auspicious objects and many key points of mantras. In Gyaro Tsalma, he received the teaching of the six-syllable mantra (藏文:ཡི་གེ་དྲུག་པ་,梵文天城体:षडक्षरी,梵文罗马拟音:ṣaḍakṣarī,汉语字面意思:六字),and practiced it, receiving great blessings. The saint also prophesied, "To the east of this great river, there is a sandalwood forest, your lama is there."

Then I went to Ü-Tsang. From Aku Pelbar I requested the Blood Drinker and the White Model. At Nub Shangpoche I requested the Kriya and the great Torma of Khabarma. He sent (me) to Tsang to deliver wool offerings to Bari, and at Bari I also requested Manjushri and Kyungdrub. From Geshe Bo I requested the Nyingma teachings. Then, when I was thirty-five years old, I went to Gyangtse in the Ngomshö region. At the pass of Pukpoche, there was a Geshe Tsankha Woche who had just come from India, and it was said that Jomo Wo had invited him and there were Dharma, food, and performances. When I went early the next morning, a woman said, "If you go up this side road from Khrawa, there is a teacher named Sogom who is generous in giving food." When I went, a group of yogis came to greet me and offered hot water. They were also distributing tsampa balls made of flour. After they had finished giving those out, they said, "There is also a newcomer." Then they had me fill a jug with water. After sprinkling the water, they led me to Pukchung Zura. They gave me a bowl of vegetables made with mustard greens. That night they also gave me food, and I slept in a rock crevice. When I was thinking of leaving the next morning, they gave me food again and said, "I have a young attendant monk who went to Sotang to get gold, but he couldn't because of the heavy rain. Please gather some firewood." So I carried a large bundle of firewood from the forest and delivered it. Sogom was very pleased and taught me the symbolic instructions of Mahamudra and the Seven Self-Arising Branches of Dzogchen. There I also became an attendant. Because I hadn't arrived, the teacher was worried and said, "Your seat is ready, please stay a few more days." I went around the Yarlung Valley once more and came back. There, realizing that Sogom was a special person, I did not go home, but begged for alms in Ön and Zangri. I bought a sack, and then offered the sack full of barley to Teacher Sogom. The teacher said, "You have served me, so that is enough. Use this for your own provisions. I have an instruction called Vajra Bridge, which allows one to realize the meaning in an instant, and there is an unbroken lineage for attaining complete enlightenment in one lifetime, in one body. I have never told anyone before, but now I will give it to you." Then I insisted on offering it, saying, "This is a praise to the teacher himself. Please plant the instructions in your heart, I will go and find some provisions." Then (the teacher) held the top of my head with his left hand and the back of my neck with his right hand.
