was also found. In that place, one hundred and eight temples were also established. The Brahmin Makshika from Odibisha invited him. A Dharma assembly was held for three months for twelve thousand Mahayana monks. The source of five kinds of jewels erupted in the Brahmin's house. The king and all others developed faith. There, one hundred and eight temples were also established. It is said that the total number of temples he personally ordered to be built in many other places, such as the south, was equal to the number he had built. Due to his influence, the total number of Mahayana monks in all places was about sixty thousand, so the Dharma was very prosperous. In short, wherever he lived, there were non-humans offering, the source of jewels erupting, clearly showing the place of good and non-good with supernatural powers, being able to pacify diseases and natural disasters with the power of truth, and possessing the ability to control life span with the power of knowledge mantras, etc. In the end, he and the monks who practiced together, who were disciplined and learned,

He recited the hundred thousand sections of the Vinaya Pitaka by heart. The five thousand monks who lived with him did not tolerate even the slightest unordained offense, and if it did occur, they would immediately correct and restore it, just as in the time when the former Arhats upheld the teachings. He adorned the destroyed Agra Puri monastery (Agra, became the capital of the Mughal Empire around 1566 AD) like a precious jewel. There, the truth of pure morality was immeasurable. Twelve heretics, the powerful King Śrī Harṣa, who was once expanding in a great pit of fire, and whose minister Matangagaraja was executed and had his eyes gouged out, were also restored by the truth of this scholar's prayers. Having become the king's guru, although he received a great abundance of enjoyment every day, he still abided in the twelve qualities he had learned: three of food, three of clothing, five of dwelling, and one of living. He did not go beyond the rules well established by the Teacher, and therefore immediately and without hesitation expanded to the great virtuous city of Galava and so on. His merits are difficult to measure.

Having seen, he thought, 'It is obscured by obscuration!' Thus, by showing the intelligence that prevents the abbot's intention, the abbot understood and became angry, saying, 'You, who satirize my tenets, get out!' He expelled even the place that should not be expelled. Like this, the holy ones are skilled in guarding mindfulness, and although they could refute with reason immediately, they considered it inappropriate because he was the abbot, so they prostrated and left. After some time, he went to Nālandā, to the presence of the great abbot Dignāga, and became very proficient in the scriptures of the Great and Small Vehicles, Consciousness-only, and Pramāṇa. He memorized about five hundred sutras. He received the vidyā-mantra from someone who had attained the siddhi of mantra, and having practiced it, he directly saw the noble Mañjuśrī and listened to the Dharma. In the secluded forest of the land called Oḍḍiyāna, in the cave called Bherasila, he single-mindedly practiced the asceticism of meditation. After a few years had passed, in glorious Nālandā, some non-Buddhist opponents who were skilled in logic and able to directly see the deity they desired arrived, unable to defeat [the Buddhists]. There, the Buddhists were unable to raise the banner of debate, so they invited Master Dharmakīrti. The four great rivers of debate, examination, proof, and refutation raged, and the non-Buddhists, with their arrogant clamor of doctrines, were thoroughly defeated by Dharmakīrti's seven-membered reasoning. Having thoroughly defeated them, he placed them in a position to hide behind the Buddhist tenets. There, he explained many sutras to the Sangha and also promoted the Abhidharma. In order to generate the wisdom of discernment, which is the antidote to uprooting the main cause of wandering in samsara—ignorance—he also composed more than a hundred scattered treatises on valid cognition. At some point, he considered compiling those modes of reasoning, drawn by the unique hook of his own intelligence, those scattered fragments, into a complete body, a treatise called the *Compendium on Valid Cognition*. On a rock in the southern retreat near Mount Vipula...
