Its certainty is that by explaining and practicing the well-spoken teachings, and by interpreting and protecting their meaning in an undistorted way, and by the power of the immeasurable activities of instructing others. It is also said: All dharmas are both sutras and shastras. The one who speaks well and the one who explains his intention. By that power, the teachings of Shakya will remain long in this world. At that time, the Teacher entrusted the teachings well to the great Kashyapa, who also protected the fourfold assembly. He removed the impurities of Ananda's mind with seven rebukes. At the time of the first council, all the worlds of gods and humans were happy. King Ajatashatru, also known as, freely enjoyed the fruits of his past merits. With great respect for the Teacher's teachings and his disciples, he desired merit in the future. At that time, the great Kashyapa also entrusted the teachings to Ananda, and after blessing his body to be indestructible on Vulture Peak Mountain, he passed into nirvana. At that time, all beings were greatly saddened. The monks and ordinary people who had seen the face of the Teacher were remorseful, saying, \"When the Buddha was alive, we wandered carelessly and did not attain any special achievements.\" Therefore, they diligently practiced samadhi and discipline. The noble disciples were also the same. The new monks who had not seen the face of the Teacher thought, \"We are far from seeing the face of the Teacher, and the power of direct instruction is also weak. If we do not cultivate diligently, we will wander astray.\" Therefore, they diligently practiced virtuous deeds with great diligence. It is said that those who attained the fruit increased day by day. At that time, the noble Ananda, as a monk," } ] ============================================================

The Sangha resided in places like the Grove of Light, placing many beings in the four fruits. Therefore, it was proclaimed in the worlds of gods and humans that the venerable Ananda was a Shravaka similar to the Teacher. After a while, the son of a merchant, born with fine cloth, known as the "Wearer of Fine Cloth," was encouraged to ordain by the venerable one. He became the pinnacle of those who uphold the Dharma, and the Dharma was entrusted to him. According to the teachings of the Minor Scriptures, it was successively entrusted up to Sudarshana, totaling seven generations. The Kashmiris believe there were eight. The commentary on the Lankavatara Sutra presents a different account. The seven generations of transmission were those who accomplished great and unparalleled deeds for the Teacher's Dharma. Furthermore, there are stories of Naropa entrusting the Dharma to the glorious Dipamkara (Atisha), and later, various Indian accounts by the Magadhan Panditas Savang Sangpo and Wangpo Gya, and the Brahmin Pandit Bhataghati, as well as writings that arose from adding many debates of wise individuals, which seem like wondrous tales. However, because it is impossible to write everything, I have generated supreme faith in those who have become great pillars of the Dharma. Here, for the time being, I have also attributed great benefit to the Shravaka's Dharma. In particular, they clarified the Mahayana tenets practiced by those of supreme intelligence. Moreover, regarding those followers of the six Tirthika teachers, such as Light Protector, who were hostile to the Buddha's Dharma, as well as the six scripture-holding followers of the Brahmanical Vedas, and the six Samapattika followers of Shiva's son, such as Sukha-vrata, with the sharp thorns of three hundred and sixty wrong views, they attempted to destroy the Dharma of the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha. All those who were not deluded in their courage and evil wisdom, like fire, burned those demons and ghosts without consuming them, with the logic of valid cognition; like wind, with unobstructed miraculous powers that were free from hindrance, they subdued them with inexhaustible strength, caused them to decline, and utterly defeated them. Therefore, they performed deeds for the Buddha's Dharma like a second Teacher, and so they are known as the Six Ornaments, Two Excellences, and Four Great Pillars of Jambudvipa, famous like the sun and moon.
