B. Memory becomes dim, teeth fall out, and although one enjoys sensual pleasures, one lacks the power to enjoy them. Unable to endure either heat or cold, and with a narrow mind, one is despised and annoyed by others, so most feelings appear as suffering. One should truly contemplate these things. Such a body is also composed of the four elements, and because these elements are not in balance with each other—wind, bile, phlegm, and a mixture—various diseases constantly torment it. Therefore, it connects the five aggregates of clinging with suffering alone, and things that become the objects of joy and sorrow also appear in a reversed manner. Due to the cause of illness, death may also come suddenly. One should contemplate well this state accompanied by fear. Then death arrives, one falls into bed and cannot get up. Even seeing food, one cannot swallow it. The feeling of death torments, the heart is displeased, the strength of age and pride is lost, and one is afflicted by the annoyances of delusion. One needs to be helped up by others. Even though relatives and friends surround one, there is no reprieve. One alone experiences the suffering of being cut off from life. Although one has countless enjoyments, one has no right to take them. The mind is unwilling, and one cannot follow. Waving limbs and with blurred eyes, one gathers the elements. Consciousness is confused. With pale tears, one goes to the next world. The appearances of the bardo arise. There, there is no protector. All appearances are frightening. At the time when all feelings are experienced as suffering, the cherished body is bound with ropes, trampled by feet, and abandoned in an unpleasant cemetery. Even though one has perfect enjoyments, the time to be eaten arrives, and then one must also go involuntarily according to karma. From now on, because one has not thought of death, one spends time conquering enemies, protecting relatives, toiling for dwellings and possessions, and indulging in the three poisons of attachment, hatred, and ignorance for the sake of relatives and friends, which is truly regrettable! Thus, on top of these four, encountering unpleasant circumstances such as enemies, one unwillingly experiences suffering and discomfort. Separating from relatives or cherished objects, one remembers their qualities and gestures, and the heart is saddened.

Because the aggregates are subject to the control of thoughts of hope and doubt, suffering arises when they do not meet expectations. As long as one possesses the contaminated aggregates, which are the recipients of the truth of suffering, the form aggregate has dependence. Feeling understands its nature. The connection of consciousness is continuous. Volition constantly accumulates seeds. Because consciousness sees it as "I," it is the place, dependence, source, and constant connection of suffering, therefore, samsara is called the aggregate of suffering. In particular, human beings should contemplate and recognize these eight ways of suffering, and thus become weary of the nature of birth. Next, contemplating the suffering of the Asuras (demigods): Due to the impetus of unwholesome karma, merely grasping the support of the body, a strong sense of jealousy arises, competing for their respective territories and resources for survival, constantly quarreling and fighting with each other, disturbing body and mind, and suffering for a long time. Moreover, unable to bear the wealth of the gods, they are tormented and suffer solely from the act of war. Furthermore, due to the difference in past merits, the gods are taller than the Asuras by about seven human bodies, and they do not die unless their vital spots are hit. The Asuras are so much shorter than the gods, and if their vital spots are hit, they die immediately, and they experience this suffering. Even if there might be some intelligent beings there, they are obscured by karma and cannot see the truth of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, they are beings with bad fortune, always experiencing suffering through fighting, one should contemplate this and strive to avoid its causes and effects. Next, the suffering of the gods: From the Four Great Kings to the gods of the Desire Realm up to the Paranirmita-vasavartin, although they seem happy for a while, they exhaust all the components of their previous white karma there. The temporary happiness makes them lack renunciation and detachment, thus neglecting the future, and when the past virtuous deeds are exhausted and signs of death and transference from that realm appear, the color of the body fades, they dislike their seats, the garlands of flowers become old, the clothes become stained, and seeing the five signs of decay appearing on the body, the gods faint with fear, this is the suffering of the gods.
