Instructions on Applying the Practice of the Common Preliminary Teachings of the Great Perfection Longchen Nyingtik. Instructions on Applying the Practice of the Common Preliminary Teachings of the Great Perfection Longchen Nyingtik. Herein lies the method of applying the practice of the common preliminary teachings of the Great Perfection Longchen Nyingtik. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Here, the common preliminaries of the Great Perfection Longchen Nyingtik are summarized into practice, and the method of applying them as instructions is presented. First, there are six aspects: the difficulty of obtaining leisure and fortune, impermanence of life, the faults of samsara, the law of karma, the benefits of liberation, and relying on a spiritual friend. Within the first aspect, there are four considerations: contemplating the essence of leisure, contemplating the distinction of fortune, contemplating examples of its rarity, and contemplating the distinction of numbers. First, if one is born in the eight states without leisure, one does not have the power to practice Dharma, so it is not a state of leisure. If one is born in hell, one experiences the suffering of heat and cold, so one does not have leisure to practice Dharma. If one is a hungry ghost, one experiences the suffering of hunger and thirst, so one does not have leisure to practice Dharma. If one is an animal, one experiences the suffering of being exploited and harming each other, so one does not have leisure to practice Dharma. If one is a long-lived god, one spends time in a state of unconsciousness, so one does not have leisure to practice Dharma. If one is born in a remote land, there is no teaching of the Buddha, so one does not have leisure to practice Dharma. If one is born into a bad situation as a heretic or with thoughts in agreement with them, one's mindstream is corrupted by wrong views, so one does not have leisure to practice Dharma. If one is born in a dark age, the sound of the Three Jewels is not heard, and one does not know the difference between good and evil, so one does not have leisure to practice Dharma. If one is born as a mute, one is incapable of anything other than consciousness, so one does not have leisure to practice Dharma. Thus, not being born in these eight states is called having leisure, because there is an opportunity to practice Dharma, so the word "leisure" is included. Therefore, after taking refuge and generating bodhicitta, rejoice that one has not been born in the eight states without leisure as a basis. Afterwards, repeatedly contemplate that the nature of these eight leisures is extremely difficult to obtain, and if one does not strive in Dharma now, one's human body is meaningless. And dedicate the merit to all sentient beings, which also applies to the following. By the way, temporary.

The eight kinds of unfreedom due to circumstances and the eight kinds of unfreedom due to intellectual deficiency, one must carefully examine the wasting of one's own continuum and removing one's own shortcomings is of great significance. Therefore, in the "Wish-Fulfilling Jewel," it says: "The five poisons are in turmoil and foolish ignorance is controlled by demons, the lazy and evil deeds surge like a great ocean, being controlled by others, fearing protection, imitating the Dharma, these are the eight kinds of unfreedom due to sudden circumstances." It also says: "Those who are bound by vows have extremely bad conduct, they do not weary of samsara and have no faith at all, they do not do good and commit evil, they do not think of the Dharma, they break vows and commitments, these are the eight kinds of unfreedom due to intellectual deficiency." These two sets of eight are very likely to occur. If one does not adopt or reject these, even if one obtains the appearance of leisure, one will fall into a state of not having time to practice the Dharma. Therefore, one should know that life is just leisure in which one grows old in leisure. Second, the five personal endowments and the five other endowments, first, the personal endowments: If one does not obtain a human body, one will not encounter the Dharma. Now, one has obtained the endowment of a human body and is complete. Moreover, if one is born in a border area without the Dharma, one will not encounter the Dharma. Now, one is born in the central region where the Dharma flourishes, therefore, one is complete with the region. If the senses are not complete, it will become an obstacle to the Dharma. Now, there is no such defect, therefore, one is complete with the qualities of the senses. If one's actions are reversed, that is, one always engages in non-virtuous deeds, one will turn away from the Dharma. Now, one likes to do good, therefore, one is complete with the difference of thought. If one does not have faith in the object of faith, the Dharma, one will not be inclined towards the Dharma. Now, one's mind is able to be inclined towards the Dharma, therefore, it is the completion of faith. These five need to be complete depending on oneself, therefore, they are called the five personal endowments. Second, the other endowments: If one is not born in the Bright Aeon when the Buddha appeared in the world, even the name of the Dharma would not exist. Now, one has encountered the Fortunate Aeon when the Buddha appeared, therefore, one is complete with the excellent teacher. Even if he appears but does not teach the Dharma, there is no benefit. Now, he has taught the three turnings of the Dharma wheel, therefore, one is complete with the Dharma. Even if he teaches the Dharma but the teachings decline, there is no benefit. Now, the teachings have not completely declined, therefore, one is complete with time. Even if the teachings exist, but one does not enter into them, there is no benefit. The teach
