Then, in an instant, he arrived. Alas, sentient being of bad karma! You have accumulated tremendous negative karma caused by intense hatred. Because you harbored intense anger towards a special place, you are experiencing such suffering in hell. Now, confess all non-virtuous deeds with intense remorse. Meditate with intense compassion on all sentient beings who are like you. If you generate the courage to take on the suffering of others, there may be liberation from this. In the past, Shakyamuni Buddha was born in hell as a being named Gyad Pakshita, who was pulling a cart. When his friend Kamarupa failed to pull the cart, the hell guardian became angry and struck his head with an iron hammer. He then developed immeasurable compassion for his friend, thinking, 'May the rope of this cart also be placed on my neck!' Thus, he generated the intention to exchange happiness and suffering. The hell guardian said, 'Each one experiences the consequences of their own actions, who can do anything?' Just as he threatened to strike his head with the hammer, he instantly passed away and was reborn in the Heaven of Thirty-Three, liberated from suffering. Having heard this story, he thought, 'If all sentient beings like me could be liberated from this suffering, I would be willing to remain here.' As soon as he generated such a thought, a white ray of light like an iron hook shone brightly from the heart of the Great Orgyen. Inseparably from that, he became a Buddha with the power to spontaneously accomplish the two benefits. From his own heart, he emitted rays of light as before, instantly liberating those sentient beings, thinking that hell was now empty. Incidentally, the lifespan of those hells is said to be calculated in eons in the common Sutra of Mindfulness, the Division of Actions, the Treasury of Abhidharma, and other texts. But here, considering that they are controlled by antidotes, it is said to be uncertain. The Omniscient One said, 'Due to the arising of strong antidotes, etc., there can be sudden transfers; due to contempt for the Vajra Master, etc., one must remain for many great eons.' Therefore, it is said to be distinguished by karmic obscurations. This can also be understood from the story of Gyad Pakshita and the friend's daughter mentioned above. Next, contemplate the cold hells: Again, imagine yourself in a place where there is no direction to go, all the ground is like sand, not even a breeze stirs, and there is no warmth from the sun.

Arrived at a very weary place. Due to the mind wandering aimlessly, thinking if it could be a little cooler. When the feeling of scorching heat disappeared, instantly visualized being born in the eight cold hells, all the ground taking on the nature of snow. All the valleys and abysses were filled with ice, surrounded by huge snow mountains. From above, a blizzard was raging, it was pitch black, and the roar of the wind was howling. In such an environment, in the ice hell, the blizzard and the touch of the wind struck the body, and in an instant, unbearable frostbite appeared on the body, all flesh and skin contracted and trembled, causing unbearable pain. Then, those frostbites burst, and pus and blood dripped down. The pain intensified, and a loud cry of "Achu" was emitted. The pain became even more intense than before, and the voice became weak, emitting a sound of "Kyi Hud" from the depths of the throat. The pain became even more intense, and no sound could be uttered, and the teeth chattered. At this time, struck by the roar of the great wind, the complexion also turned bluish-purple, and like an উৎপལ་ (Tibetan: উৎপལ་; Sanskrit Devanagari: utpala; Sanskrit Romanization: utpala; Chinese literal meaning: blue lotus), it cracked into six small cracks. The cold stung, and the skin was also peeled off, and the bright red flesh cracked into ten petals like a lotus. The cracks became even more numerous, blooming like a lotus. The pain felt was a hundred times greater than the previous pain, and this pain was like taking out one sesame seed every hundred years from a large container in the city of Magadha, a container that could hold eighty Khar of sesame seeds, and when the sesame seeds were exhausted, it would be the lifespan of the frostbite hell. Hearing these things, I felt very tired and depressed. Again, in the sky in front, the root guru appeared in the form of the Great Master of Oddiyana (Padmasambhava), saying: Child, know your own suffering and practice the joy of exhaustion. With strong compassion, add the suffering of others to yourself, and rely on special antidotes. Just hearing these words, I thought: How pitiful are all the sentient beings in the cold hells who suffer like me. I will bear their fate, and even if I suffer a hundred thousand times greater pain than this, I will endure it.
