Hearing these words, I felt even more regret for what I had done in the past. Realizing that all the affairs of this life are inherently suffering, I prayed intensely to the Great Orgyen. When the thought arose in my mind, a ray of light like an iron hook emanated from my heart center, and at the same moment it pierced my heart, I was instantly born in the pure land of Lotus Light. Thinking that I had become the perfect guide leading all sentient beings, I let my awareness rest naturally. Thirdly, the Son's Letter says: "Generate compassion for the six types of sentient beings, and diligently worship the Three Jewels, creating white virtuous deeds, etc." Thus, even if one only understands that death is impermanent and that all actions are the nature of suffering, if one does not understand the key points of how to practice Dharma, one will not be content with the wealth of food, clothing, enjoyment, and worldly prosperity that are labeled as conducive to Dharma. One wants more and more. One strives by various means to acquire all kinds of evil and indulgent things. Many people spend their lives exhausting themselves for the eight worldly concerns. Therefore, one should contemplate the suffering of samsara and generate compassion for the six types of sentient beings. Moreover, as it says in the Sutra on the Establishment of Mindfulness: "In samsara, even on the tip of a needle, there is never happiness." Thus, it is not said in the sutras that there is happiness in samsara, only suffering. Among them, the suffering of the lower realms is described by the teacher Shantideva: "If you think about the suffering of hell, etc., then desires are like swords, poison, fire, cliffs, and even enemies cannot compare." As the sutra says, the suffering is extremely unbearable, and even if one's own death is like a lamp extinguished or a pile of grass burned without a trace, if that were all, it would be fine. But even if one does not want to be born, one must be born. However, there are few causes for being born in a happy realm, because in the past one was always carefree. In previous lives, one did not accumulate much merit, so that is why one has reached this state now. However, one has accumulated unimaginable amounts of non-virtuous deeds, even in the midst of play. If one has to experience the suffering of the lower realms as a result of those deeds, then there is no difference between the suffering experienced in this life and the suffering experienced in the next life. Thus, the suffering of hell, as it says in the Letter to a Friend: "The hells are painted"
