Now, during meditative equipoise, meditate on emptiness like the sky, which is inconceivable. During the post-meditation period, train in the mind that is like an illusion. In mantra, meditative equipoise and post-meditation are primordially pure, directly using awareness as the path, therefore it is superior. Also, in accomplishing the benefit of oneself and others, from the perspective of characteristics, only temporary minor benefits can be achieved. In mantra, by causing rain to fall, famines are pacified, and so on, enabling the compassion of limitless activities to manifest in the world, therefore it is superior for benefiting others. Through the profound activities of the two stages, karma and habitual tendencies are exhausted moment by moment, and realization and samadhi increase more and more, therefore it is also superior for accomplishing one's own benefit, and so on. In terms of view, in characteristics, one only understands the limitation of the vehicle of causality, which is merely preventing extremes and conforming to agreement. In mantra, one ascertains the meaning of the great secret of the result and has a broad mind, therefore it is superior. Abandoning the extreme of laziness means there is nothing difficult to do, because great results are achieved with little effort, therefore it is superior to characteristics, as explained in the Lamp of the Three Modes. Also, regarding the distinction of accumulating merit, in characteristics, there are only common accumulations such as generosity and the six perfections, and even those are harmed by subtle unfavorable factors, therefore it takes a long time. In mantra, because one knows that everything is a Buddha-field, one's own enjoyment also becomes accumulation, therefore it is more powerful. Because one knows that resources are nectar, the grasping of objects is purified. Because one realizes the equality of self-nature purity, it becomes supreme. Because one knows that afflictions are also the play of the five kayas, it is superior. Some argue that there is a difference in terms of the means of entering, but there is no difference in terms of the view of wisdom, thereby disparaging the profound secret. However, Indrabhuti said, "It is superior through the distinction of the guru, the vessel, the ritual, the activity, the samaya, the view of meditation, and the distinction of conduct." As explained in accordance with the Ra li tantra, in characteristics, one cultivates the non-self-nature of thoughts and concepts through hearing and thinking, thereby turning the mind away from ordinary conceptual thoughts and abiding without distraction, which is what is desired as freedom from the four or eight extremes of elaboration. The four extremes are: the two of arising and ceasing, the two of permanence and annihilation, these are four. The eight are: on top of those, the two of going and coming, not different and not non-different, and not even one, thus adding four, making a total of eight. Therefore, in mantra, from the arising of thoughts as the play of dharmata, the mind is naturally clear, free from artificiality, and transformed into self-arisen wisdom, possessing the characteristic of appearing as the ultimate truth of non-duality and spontaneity. Although there is no difference from the perspective of the manifestation of the result and its abiding in the mindstream, we say that from the perspective of the recognition and identification of the path, there is a difference between direct perception and inference. This method should be regarded as the merit of practice. The Omniscient Great One believes that such a superior difference cannot be exhausted even if described for eons, and the treasury of accomplished ones also makes extensive distinctions on this. Second, there are three ways to recognize the way as the result: Establishing as the result from the perspective of rapid time, that is, establishing as the result because enlightenment can be attained very quickly by any means. As it is said in the Samputa Tantra: "Through countless billions of eons, all Buddhas cannot be truly attained, through the rituals of secret mantra in this life, one will attain it in this very life." For example, a sharp knife quickly cuts down a tree, saying, "This is cut, it breaks with a touch," while a dull knife cannot cut it even after a long time. Similarly, the enlightenment that cannot be attained for a long time through characteristics can be attained in an instant in mantra, therefore it is established as the Fruition Vehicle. Similarly, it is established as the result by becoming a supreme method, as it is said in the Padma Tilaka Tantra: "Extremely difficult to accomplish, in an instant of perfect union, not relying on prior causes, because it produces the result from the key point, it is called the Fruition Vehicle." Nowadays, for a certain task, one person cannot complete it even after working hard for seven days, but another person can forcefully complete it in one day through skill. Similarly, meditation and samadhi, etc., which take many years to accomplish in characteristics, in mantra, in just one or two days, through the power of binding the body's key points and the function of the channels and winds, one can determine the manifestation of the qualities of the path signs, therefore it is also established as the result. By using what is similar to the result as the path, it is also established as the result, that is, as it is said in that same tantra: "The nature of the stainless realm of reality, complete with the three bodies and four wisdoms, when it is purified, at that very time, it appears as self-manifestation."
