O powerful ones! O you who are conceitedly wise but do not understand! O you who cling to words and terms! O you who are conceited about understanding the true meaning! I do not like those who think they know everything, those who are stubborn, and those who are biased. Therefore, O you who possess noble qualities! Please answer this question truthfully. Thus it is said. Regarding this, it should be understood as follows: Those who are capable of working for the precious teachings of the Buddha, and who are guides on the path for countless sentient beings, are known as lamas and spiritual friends. Their conduct is such that through listening, they can distinguish between Dharma and non-Dharma, and cut through exaggerations and slanders; through contemplation, they can master all knowable objects and gain the eye of Dharma; and through meditation, they can bring the nature of reality to its true state and unite the result with the realm of wisdom, thus possessing these three qualities. In particular, if one does not possess various qualities when composing treatises, merely knowing how to use words is like being a blind, ignorant, and stubborn embodiment, a thief of the Dharma, and nothing else. Therefore, the qualities of a scholar who composes treatises are: The best is one who can see the truth of Dharma and thus has the ability to freely interpret the scriptures and treatises, such as the Six Ornaments and Two Supremes of India, and Kunkhyen Ngakgi Wangpo of Palden Samye in Tibet (c. 1310-1370). The intermediate is one who can see the face of the tutelary deity and be inspired by them, thus combining the key secrets of the six edges and four methods, untangling the entangled, straightening the crooked, revealing the hidden, and being able to explain them. The least is one who is not confused about the five sciences—grammar, logic, crafts, medicine, and inner knowledge—and who possesses a pure and special lineage of explanation for what is being said, and who is able to explain the meaning of the words as they are. The nature of a treatise to be composed, as said by Lord Maitreya: 'That which completely subdues the enemies of afflictions and protects from the suffering of bad migrations, because it has the qualities of subduing and protecting, is a treatise; these two qualities are not found in other systems.' As it is said, the interpretation of the intention of a treatise that possesses these qualities is based on the two qualities of subduing the enemies of afflictions and protecting from the suffering of bad migrations.

Regarding the key instructions on this, in the wisdom of exposition, it should include the following: including the necessary summarized meaning, including refutations and responses, including the connection of contexts, including the meaning of words and phrases. As it is said, the necessity and meaning are summarized. Refuting the erroneous behaviors of those who, due to arrogance, cannot regard the Dharma as Dharma, and the need for explanations of responses. Supported by scriptures. Explaining after determining the meaning of words and phrases, these are the five extremely excellent parts. Similarly, the body of the treatise itself also possesses the three characteristics of the inner path, is free from the six faults of the outer paths, and possesses the two Dharmas of necessity and connection, therefore it is the path of liberation, and it is determined by distinguishing it through three aspects. Therefore, through realization, knowing all the faults of samsara and nirvana, ascending to the throne of the royal position of Samantabhadra's intention. Because the scriptures appear as instructions, therefore having a fearless demeanor in the places of teaching, debating, and writing. Because the Dharma eye is not closed, therefore the all-seeing sky yogi who is liberated from the cage of prejudice and sectarianism. Anyone who is attached and narrow-minded should not misunderstand, because praising the virtues of the author and teacher is completely reasonable. As the Protector Song Practitioner said, "Thus, of all phenomena, the root is faith and understanding." The Omniscient One said, "Praising the virtues of the teacher and the Dharma causes listeners and followers to generate faith and reverence for the teacher and the Dharma. By this blessing entering, it becomes the cause for entering the path of liberation and the Dharma." The Extensive Play Sutra says, "Therefore, faith is the door to the appearance of the Dharma, making the mind capable." Explaining with the support of scriptures, and because one's own treatise is also explained in the same way, therefore we are disciples who are directly blessed and encouraged by him. From where was it collected? Collected from the infinite vehicle of cause and effect, and the method of explanation completely preserves the views of the Omniscient One. To which school does it belong? It belongs to the pinnacle of the vehicle, the Great Perfection of Natural Perfection. For what purpose? Temporarily, it is to make the actions of the questioner and instigator meaningful, and ultimately, it is for many people to realize the key points of the path and attain Buddhahood. A summary from beginning to end.
