Oh, do not slander the pinnacle of vehicles based on your speculative distortions! The tenets of the four schools of philosophy spoken of in the lower vehicles are also established in the great treatises of Dzogchen. Primarily, in this land of snow mountains (referring to Tibet), having mastered the ocean-like depths of both one's own and others' philosophical schools, like the sun and moon, the collected teachings of the omniscient Longchen Rabjam, the Three Rest Series: the root text Mind at Rest, the commentary Great Chariot, the root text Meditation at Rest, the commentary Pure Chariot, the root text Illusion at Rest, the commentary Excellent Chariot, etc. The root texts and commentaries and the Seven Treasures: Wish-Fulfilling Treasure, Instructions Treasure, Philosophical Treasure, Supreme Vehicle Treasure, Meaning or Clear Light Treasure, Reality Treasure, Dharma Nature Precious Treasure, these seven. And so forth, can be understood through these. The Kusulus can also investigate. First, the Shravaka Vehicle has two: Vaibhashika and Sautrantika. The former asserts that external appearances are true, the latter asserts that all external appearances are composed of subtle particles. The Mahayana Vehicle has two: Cittamatra and Madhyamaka. The former has two: True Aspect Cittamatra and False Aspect Cittamatra. As it is said in the scripture, "Yogis are also harmed by increasingly higher minds due to differences in intelligence." Thus, the True Aspect Cittamatra refutes the Sautrantikas, saying, "Your assertion that external appearances are composed of subtle particles is unreasonable. Because even an indivisible particle can be divided into four directions, eight intermediate directions, and two directions above and below, making ten parts. Therefore, even the indivisible particle is not established." Having said this, they establish their own system: all appearances are asserted to be true in the mind, and all external appearances are not established outside of the mind's deluded appearances, just like the appearances in a dream. They acknowledge that appearances are true in the mind, but they have not severed the root of the mind. The False Aspect Cittamatra asserts that external objects do not exist, nor does the apprehending consciousness exist. The wisdom that realizes the non-duality of the apprehended and the apprehender, the self-aware and self-luminous awareness, is true. This is the alaya-vijnana, and on this basis, they accept the law of cause and effect. It is bound by antidotes and has not been able to break free from the four extremes of elaboration.

However, this is like most current devoted meditators who specially cling to the understanding that "everything is mind" and want to take this as meditation. This is only the act of a blind person who has not attained the ultimate conclusion. Those masters who have realized the meaning lineage and are renowned throughout Tibet and China, their intention is not even a trace of this. Therefore, saying that the view of Dzogchen is Cittamatra, and slandering the ordinary consciousness that is commonly known in Mahamudra and Dzogchen, is only because the jaundice of bias has robbed the radiance of guidance, causing the color of a conch shell to appear yellow. Apart from this, there is no cognitive function whatsoever. Secondly, regarding the definitive meaning of Great Madhyamaka, there are two: Svatantrika and Prasangika. The first is to differentiate between correct conventional truth and incorrect conventional truth, but in doing so, it has not removed the stain of dualistic dharma. The second, the Prasangika Madhyamaka, says this: "Because I have no assertions, I am therefore faultless." Having said this, it proclaims that all phenomena are without inherent existence, and that they are not established from their own side, and that they are not established by their own characteristics, and that they are not established as the nature of anything. As it says in the homage of the Root Verses on the Middle Way: "གང་གི་རྟེན་ཅིང་འབྲེལ་བར་འབྱུང༌། (Tibetan, gang gi rten cing 'brel bar 'byung) འགག་པ་མེད་པ་སྐྱེ་མེད་པ། (Tibetan, 'gag pa med pa skye med pa) ཆད་པ་མེད་པ་རྟག་མེད་པ། (Tibetan, chad pa med pa rtag med pa) འོང་བ་མེད་པ་འགྲོ་མེད་པ། (Tibetan, 'ong ba med pa 'gro med pa) ཐ་དད་དོན་མིན་དོན་གཅིག་མིན། (Tibetan, tha dad don min don gcig min)" Thus, it establishes the freedom from the eight extremes. And when our teacher demonstrated the way of attaining enlightenment, he also said: "ཟབ་ཞི་སྤྲོས་བྲལ་འོད་གསལ་འདུས་མ་བྱས། (Tibetan, zab zhi spros bral 'od gsal 'dus ma byas)" etc., this is precisely the intention of that verse. In our own system, the Omniscient Great One (possibly referring to Longchenpa) also said: "The way of abiding in the view is the same as Prasangika." Like this, if one turns inward and meditates, it is not merely understanding the scope of the explanatory tantras, but abiding in the uncontaminated awareness, primordially pure, in the way of abiding in freedom from elaboration, without any inversion. And because of this, establishing the view of the three great ones, like a hundred rivers converging under one bridge, the intention here is the same. However, due to the lack of the wealth of hearing and thinking, some who have not understood the essential points of the philosophical systems, use the experience of lethargic quiescence, in Dharma language, to say that "there is no choice in the view of the three great ones," like worldly magicians using numbers to measure the power of dragons, treating the special secrets as if there were no instructions. This is turning one's back on the teachings of the Vajra Essence.
