There is no need (to do anything). Therefore, listen to this key point! For the awareness that directly grasps, there is no essence, recognition, or name. It is liberated from the extremes of existence and non-existence, and is not either yes or no. Clear and without an object, it is empty and transparent; bright and without grasping, it is naked and bare. Do not be mistaken about its lack of inherent existence. Know that this is the view. For the nature of reality that is realized in this way, this memory without fabrication or distortion, self-illuminates without sinking or excitement, and is merely labeled as meditation. For the sudden approach, since there is no mind stream stirred by winds and thoughts, it is enough to simply know that awareness is directly present. For the gradual approach, the key point is to meditate on the union of calm abiding and insight of actual intelligence. Knowing that focusing the mind one-pointedly is the basis is calm abiding, and knowing its nature is insight. If you analyze the appearances, that is its fault. The unconsciousness where the six consciousnesses cease, and the cessation of the appearance of objects even when there is memory, is straying into mere calm abiding, which is the mind of the four states of existence. Even if you only recognize it as clarity and emptiness, if you do not realize the nature of awareness as the great freedom from conceptual elaboration that transcends the mind, you will stray into the samadhi of the form realm. Therefore, when the senses have not ceased, if awareness is not mixed with objects, there is no appearance of mind born from the senses. I am beyond the mind, and awareness is the great transcendence of mind. It is the path of all the Sugatas of the three times. Pierce it into your heart! At that time, whatever thoughts arise, do not follow them, and do not abandon them. It is neither negation nor affirmation. In the place of arising, remain unmoved from the unborn, mind-free nature, like water and waves, becoming of one taste. This is called spontaneous liberation. If you become accustomed to this, appearance and mind, like salt dissolving into water, many mix into one taste, and the source of karma and habitual tendencies is exhausted. The face of the Dharmakaya, free from the duality of grasping and being grasped, will be seen in this very moment. This is the special characteristic of Dzogchen. Having realized this meaning, may you attain the fruit of liberation in one lifetime! This was the heart advice given by the Dzogchenpa Rangjung Dorje Khyentse, incarnated as the deity of Padma Odling, at the request of Dkon mchog Chos dar of Drigung Yangrigar at the time of Kalpa. I prostrate to the feet of the Second Buddha! You two disciples who have come from the southern region, may the final instructions before departure be engraved in your hearts. There are many opportunities to obtain a leisure human body again, but the wealthy...

What is particularly complete is that there are few like you among practitioners. After examining, strive to practice the Dharma, and give encouragement along the way. The teachings of the degenerate age, expectations for factions, power, and glory, are frustrating. Therefore, we ourselves live in seclusion, generating joy, which is also due to the good wishes of previous lives. Be sure to integrate your own mindstream with the Dharma. Like pursuing only the benefits of this life, hearing, thinking, and practicing the eight worldly dharmas, as well as generosity, discipline, etc., will not become the cause of liberation. Be sure to understand the key points of the Dharma. If it is not related to renunciation, then the outwardly dignified appearance of a monk, and the posture of living in seclusion in the mountains, will only become the cause of increasing arrogance. Therefore, in any case, take the merits of the predecessors as an example, and examine whether your own mindstream is integrated with the Dharma. Whatever you do, if it is not combined with the mind of benefiting others, even if you work hard, it is only a Hinayana deviation. Therefore, know that Bodhicitta is the root of the Dharma. Even if you practice the Dharma in seclusion, if you become cowardly, you will be blamed; if you succeed in benefiting others, you will be suppressed. Because there are many such people now, you must be prepared with the armor and courage to endure wrong views. Life is impermanent, like a guest; consciousness is changeable, like a bird on a tree. Similarly, in this unreliable situation of enemy, friend, and relative, abandon the attachment to permanence. When you are respected by others, be wary of generating arrogance, and if it is possible to change the mind of benefiting sentient beings, do not be too harsh. However, the example of compassion aging and hatred transforming, examine it well, and do not violate the vows that are in accordance with the Dharma. The only thing that does not change is the true nature of wisdom, when abiding in reality, there is no fear no matter what you do. I entered the door of Dharma from the age of six. Just entering, I had renunciation and compassion, but the mind and Dharma merged, not yet twenty-five years old. At the age of twenty-five, I slightly understood the method of abiding in the root, but not yet twenty-eight.
