Emerge from the crowd. Dedicate your mind to the Lama and the Three Jewels, and do not listen to the words of others. Take control of yourself and look to the biographies of previous accomplished ones. When misfortune and calamities occur, consider them as fuel for obscurations, and cultivate joy, thinking that negative karma is exhausted. Be content with whatever food and clothing arise, and do not forsake the Dharma for the sake of your stomach. Even when happiness and joy arise, know that they are impermanent, like a dream from last night, and practice seeing desires as illusory. With such masculine strength, establish a life-fortress of practice in places like cliffs and snowfields, follow the biographies of previous accomplished ones, and even if you do not reach the exhaustion of the concept of birth and death, you must certainly come to a point of no regret at the time of death. This is the essence of practicing the Dharma. These are the words of Rangjung Padmasambhava, from the hermitage of the great powerful palace of Orgyen Rangjung, a bird's nest secluded from the hustle and bustle, the instruction to the Vidyadhara Lhundrup by Khyentse Özer, may it be virtuous! In the unmade, still, vast expanse, Samsara and Nirvana are non-dual, beyond effort and thought, Awareness beyond view, meditation, and action, To the innate nature, I prostrate without acceptance or rejection. The settling of the mind is: The present ordinary consciousness, naturally, without fabrication or artifice, clear and awake. This is it, which cannot be definitively established by words. These two, always, just cultivate not forgetting them, that is meditation. Forgetting this is no meditation, not forgetting is meditation. The ultimate settling is this hand-seal, as the Omniscient One said: Even if you recognize your own face, if you do not familiarize yourself with it, The enemy of conceptual thought will carry you away like a small child on the battlefield. Therefore, beyond this, meditation places are delightful and joyful, bright states are clinging, not understanding is dark and murky, etc., whatever arises, it will not go beyond deviation and loss. Meditate in this way. The mind abides here. All the certainties of thinking that it is this itself are the husk of the mind, because of the previous reason. Even if you meditate for a long time, if clinging is not destroyed, the effort is meaningless, like a severed profit and fame. Therefore, know this. So, the present consciousness, without fabrication, without thought and speech, constantly remembering this is called meditation. It is called awareness. It is called primordial purity. Not remembering this is called delusion. It is called ignorance.

Ra. It is called mind. Samsara and Nirvana are nothing more than the difference between being awake and not being awake. When meditating like this, if disturbed by rampant thoughts, the thoughts themselves are not beyond meditation, so instead of simply drifting with the thoughts, if it recognizes itself, it is called thoughts arising as meditation. However, at first, it is very difficult to distinguish the boundary between distraction and non-distraction, so do not transform thoughts into the path from the beginning. Instead, look intently at whatever arises, without analyzing or contemplating it, and let awareness remain self-controlled. Once stability is attained, thoughts will arise clearly. At that time, the skill of insight will arise, so do not distinguish between abiding and moving, nor expand with conceptualization as before, but maintain ungrasping emptiness. In this way, one can see the common truth of the union of Shamatha and Vipassana, and the summary of eliminating obstacles and increasing merit has been taught. Alas, the time of death is uncertain, like lightning in the sky. Enemies and friends are uncertain, like autumn clouds. Gathering is impermanent, like guests in a market. Do not cling to impermanence as permanence, practice the Dharma. This life's benefits, fame, food, wealth, and enjoyment are of little use other than deception. For illusory appearances of desire, reduce the bondage of clinging to reality and hope. 2 Black and white karma is very powerful, and all that must be experienced will fall upon one's own head. Therefore, for abandoning evil and doing good, taking and rejecting, observe with mindfulness and awareness, and then take the essence. 3 To the all-encompassing refuge, the Great Orgyen (Padmasambhava) and the protector of Tibet, the Great Compassionate Avalokiteshvara, pray from the depths of your heart. Recite the heart mantra Vajra Guru Six Syllable Mantra. 4 For appearance, sound, and awareness, as well as deities, mantras, and the nature of reality, abandon the clinging to the ordinary as independent reality. For the generation stage, recitation, and the tenth-day feast, firmly keep the vows unbroken. 5 In the uncreated, spontaneously accomplished mandala of one's own body, because the peaceful and wrathful deity assembly of awareness naturally arises, joyfully offer the feast of food and drink. In this way, the fault of wrong livelihood is eliminated. 6 Good and bad, joy and sorrow, good and evil, death, etc., all are the play of the mind. In the great expanse of original purity, free from effort, the taste is one.
