Even if it means dwelling solely in the great Avici Hell to eliminate the suffering of a single sentient being for countless billions of eons, and eventually attaining perfect enlightenment, one should not abandon their perseverance. What need is there to mention abandoning armor for other, extremely minor sufferings, and for a short period of time? One should cultivate such steadfastness of heart. As stated in the "Śrīmālādevī Siṃhanāda Sūtra": Because their armor is firm, Bodhisattvas, for the sake of each and every action of each sentient being, continue to benefit sentient beings in samsara until the end of samsara, and completely seek the medicine of wisdom. Without abandoning their armor, they equip themselves very firmly, from the great armor to the armor of non-differentiation. Thus it is said. Accustoming oneself to such thoughts and generating faith will also become a cause for awakening the power of the lineage of the Great Vehicle. As stated in the "Compendium of Perfections": When in samsara, abandoning concern for one's own suffering, and generating immeasurable, firm armor, for the courageous practitioner with compassion, it is said to be the first correct undertaking. Thus it is said. The extent of such irreversible armor-like perseverance is: From beginningless samsara until today, if one combines each day and night, after one trillion years have passed, one generates Bodhicitta once and sees one Buddha. After such a period of time equal to the number of grains of sand in the Ganges River, one understands the disposition and behavior of one sentient being. Even if it is necessary to understand the minds and behaviors of limitless sentient beings only through such means, one should not be discouraged. This is the extent of irreversible armor, as taught in the "Akṣayamati Sūtra". Dwelling in such perseverance, and for those who engage in activities such as recollecting the Buddha, even the demons cannot find an opportunity. As stated in the "Sagaramati Sutra": For those who desire to realize all dharmas, abiding in perseverance and recollecting the Buddha, completely dedicating, confessing, and prostrating, the demons will not find an opportunity. Thus it is said. Having thus strengthened the armor-like perseverance, regarding the two activities undertaken for the sake of something, the preliminary effort of persev

Diligence is the entirety of the place for accumulating virtuous dharmas. Like relying on the six or ten perfections to completely perfect and purify the ten bhumis, as stated in the 'Questions of Gangpo': In order to completely dedicate to the omniscient wisdom and sentient beings, practice the perfection of generosity, the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, and the perfection of meditation. Everything is preceded by wisdom, manifestly accomplishing wisdom, and after being completely gathered by wisdom, dedicate it to the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment. Thus it is said. The diligence that benefits sentient beings is the cause for accomplishing the benefit of both oneself and others. Regarding the eleven things to be done, exert effort with the body, be diligent with speech, and strive greatly with the mind. For example, like the merchant leader Solangden who, in order to eliminate the poverty of sentient beings, took a jewel from the Jewel Island, which fell into the sea, and like wanting to dry the sea by scooping out the water with his hands, one should not retreat from the place initially vowed, and not turn back in the middle. Just as there is no laziness or contentment in the effort to avoid having one's head on fire or a poisonous snake entering one's lap, one should cut off all obstacles and adverse conditions to diligence, accumulate an army of conducive conditions, and enter into great undertakings. If it is not based solely on mindfulness and awareness, it will not be accomplished, as: A vessel filled with a little oil, brandishing a sword beside it, like threatening to kill a servant, the practitioner should be so careful. Thus it is said. Thinking about this, achieving Buddhahood has many unbearable difficulties, especially if one must give up one's head and limbs, etc., and thinking that one cannot do that, then, for those sentient beings who have not entered into practice and who abide at will, they also experience unspeakable suffering due to the faults of karma, such as being beheaded, dismembered, having their bodies pierced, being bound and burned, etc., which is obvious. In this way, neither one's own benefit nor the benefit of others is accomplished.
