The three precepts of what should not be done are from the Sutra of Nirvana: Whoever goes for refuge to the Buddha, is a true devotee, and never goes for refuge to other gods. Whoever goes for refuge to the sacred Dharma, is free from the mind of harming and hurting. Whoever goes for refuge to the Sangha, does not associate with non-Buddhists. As it is said. Having gone for refuge to the Buddha, one should not take refuge in the great worldly gods such as the powerful and all-pervading deities. What need is there to mention the pretas who roam in the sky and have some magical powers and clairvoyance? Then, one might wonder if the seventy-five protectors and others are not suitable as Dharma protectors. If one does not trust in the Three Jewels, or if one thinks that there is something superior to them and abandons them, it is not permissible. However, there is no prohibition against relying on and making offerings to them as temporary companions for accomplishing virtuous deeds. For example, one does not take refuge in a doctor, but hopes that he will cure one's illness. Having gone for refuge to the Dharma, one should abandon the great harm to sentient beings, as many do not recognize as sinful the acts of binding and beating sentient beings, putting them in pens, piercing their noses and forcing them to work, tormenting them with unbearable loads, and riding them beyond the limits of the road, etc., due to ignorance. For example, deliberately taking birds and wild animals as one's possessions for the sake of play and wonder is the same as confining sentient beings in pens. How much suffering and harm is caused by preventing them from roaming freely? One can understand this by putting oneself in their place. Having gone for refuge to the Sangha, one should not associate with those who do not believe in or slander the Three Jewels, and one should not even turn one's mind towards those who do not respect the Three Jewels. The three precepts for accomplishing favorable conditions corresponding to this are: For the images and statues of the Buddhas, no matter what their form and craftsmanship, do not appraise them, do not leave them in a place where service is neglected, do not use them as collateral, etc. All contemptuous actions must be abandoned. As it is said in the Holy Dharma White Lotus Sutra: The body emanates many forms, to benefit beings and perform virtuous deeds. Because it is the nature of the emanation body.

There are many teachings in the scriptures about the inconceivable consequences of faith and disrespect towards the Three Jewels. One should not be disrespectful towards the Dharma, from the fourth chapter to the first. As it says in the Vinaya Sutra: "Do no evil, cultivate perfect virtue, and completely subdue your mind; this is the teaching of the Buddha." Because it contains the complete system of the teacher's teachings and realized doctrines, one should not sell scriptures as merchandise, discard them carelessly on the ground, reduce service to them, use them as pillows, or use them as collateral, etc. It is truly amazing that holy individuals who have faith in the Three Jewels will rise even when they see scriptures being invited, join their palms, descend from their mounts, and even hold in awe the old cloths and threads used to wrap the scriptures. Nowadays, debating the words and meanings of the Dharma, treating the images of emanations as toys, and merely engaging in contempt are actually accumulating the causes of degenerate wisdom and ignorance. Why? Because it is said in the Arya Manjushri Nama Samgiti: "In the degenerate age of the five degenerations, I will abide in the form of letters. You should think of this as me, and at that time, respect me." Similarly, one should not despise the sangha of monks, or even those who merely hold the marks of renunciate shramanas. Not only should one abandon the teachings of not taking refuge, but the fault of despising the sangha who possess discipline is great. For example, Shedbu Serkya spoke eighteen evil words to the learned and unlearned sangha, such as, "What do you elephant-headed ones know about Dharma or non-Dharma?" As a result, he was born as eighteen different-headed aquatic creatures. From the Buddha Kashyapa to Shakyamuni Buddha, he remained in the animal realm. Therefore, one should not arbitrarily evaluate or criticize, even the comments of Ladakh are an unforgivable mistake. Even those whose discipline is broken but still hold the marks of a monk, like a dead yak having musk and a dead musk deer having musk oil, still possess some fruit of previous good deeds, so they should not be despised or punished.
