Spending time with thoughts and meditation. In the Bodhisattva Pitaka, it says: When one engages in practicing the instructions of the guru, the extraordinary intention of billions, trillions, hundreds of thousands, and countless tens are completely purified. Such faculties increase, such blessings arise, such obscurations are cleared away, such demons are overcome, one enters such doors of Dharma, such accumulations are completed, such conduct is completely purified, such aspirations are fulfilled, such qualities are attained. In short, the complete perfection of all the Buddha's teachings depends on the guru and arises from the guru. Incidentally, it is also important to abandon evil friends. When the spirit that hates peace, whose mind comes in the form of a person, relies on black Dharma with deceit and trickery, curses the holy ones, and hates white Dharma. The more one associates with them, the more sinful actions spread like a whirlwind, destroying the roots of virtue. The foolish wisdom of the teachings is destroyed by the hordes of demons. Thus, although an evil friend exists in the form of a person, his mind is possessed by the Asuras, therefore, directly or indirectly, they rely only on unresolved disputes. Those who associate with deceit and trickery, whose minds are overwhelmed by misdeeds, behave in a way that is extremely contradictory to the acceptance and rejection of black and white. Merely associating with them increases sin and diminishes virtue, so they should be abandoned. As it is said in the Mindfulness Sutra: Attachment, hatred, and ignorance are all the causes of evil friends, who are like poisonous trees. And as it is said in the Jewel Heap Sutra: What is an evil friend? It is one who diminishes virtue and engages in non-virtue. One should not rely on them, one should not associate with them, and one should not even see them. Their faults are described in the Nirvana Sutra: Bodhisattvas fear evil friends more than drunk elephants, etc., because the latter only destroy the body, while the former destroy both virtue and the pure mind. It is also said in the Chapter of the Truthful One. It is clearly explained in the Collection of Friends.

Furthermore, those who lack faith and are stingy, those who lie and are tale-bearers, the wise do not make them friends, and one should not associate with sinful people. If someone is doing evil, even if someone who does not do evil teaches him, he will suspect that he is doing evil, and bad reputation will increase. One should not associate with someone who should not be taught, that person will become flawed by faults. Just as if there is poison in a hole, and an arrow is shot into it, even if it is not coated with poison, it will be contaminated with poison. Thus it is said. Therefore, the benefits of abandoning bad friends are immeasurable. In the Eight Thousand Verses, it is said: Subhuti, the benefits of abandoning bad friends are inconceivable. One will always do good, see the Tathagatas, live a happy life, be born in the happy realms of the heavens, and in all lifetimes will not be separated from the mind of enlightenment. And so on, it is extensively taught. Therefore, by relying on virtuous spiritual friends and companions, one grasps the Dharma of seeing goodness and qualities. Always contemplate the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. One is enriched with all the qualities of higher realms and definite goodness. One completes the accumulations, purifies obscurations, and attains the two kinds of siddhis. The qualities of the stages and paths go from higher to higher. Yogis meditate and practice, accumulating merit. Mixing one's mind with the guru's mind is wisdom, because it is the essence of the fruit of the two accumulations. Serving and honoring the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas for eons is superior to meditating on hundreds of thousands of stages of generation. The Buddha said that remembering the guru for a moment is the most supreme. Thus, associating with virtuous spiritual friends and virtuous companions who are like their limbs is also of great significance. As asked by Good Arms: Just as a chariot with only one wheel, even if it has a horse, cannot travel on the road. Similarly, if a practitioner does not have a friend, sentient beings will not attain accomplishment. And its characteristics are: He is intelligent, handsome, pure, loud-voiced, of noble lineage, diligent in the Dharma, confident and brave, subdues the senses, speaks pleasantly, is generous and compassionate, can endure hunger, thirst, and afflictions, does not worship Brahmins and other gods, is quick-witted, grateful, and is a friend who has faith in the Three Jewels.
