That which possesses the wisdom of realization and is skilled in liberating the disciple's continuum is the embodiment of all Buddhas. As stated in the "Sutra of Immaculate Space": "Ananda, the Tathagatas do not appear to all sentient beings, but the virtuous friend fully appears, teaching the Dharma and planting the seeds of liberation. Therefore, the virtuous friend is even more important than the Tathagatas." Also, as stated in the Tantra: "The Buddhas and their sons, to whomever they tame, show a form that is in accordance with them." Furthermore, as stated in the "General Sutra," all accomplishments depend solely on the Lama: "Without relying on the teachers, Buddhas will never arise; I have never seen them arise. If they did arise, it would contradict the holy scriptures." The all-encompassing conduct is also uncertain. For the sake of straightforwardness, it is in harmony with all; for the sake of certainty, it contradicts all forms; because it has profound meaning, it is superior to all. Skilled in cutting doubts, enduring wrong views, asceticism, and fatigue. As it is said in the "Array of Trees Sutra": "What is a virtuous friend? It is one who, in order to guide beings, is seen as not being in disharmony. Because it transcends the world, it is not common to all. It strives in all ways, accomplishing immeasurable benefits." The praise that matches the example and meaning is: "A great boat that saves from the ocean of existence, a true helmsman who will not stray on the supreme path. Destroying the fire of karma and afflictions, it is a rain of nectar. Dispelling the darkness of ignorance, it is like the sun and moon. Because the vehicle is extremely vast, it is like the earth. It is the source of benefit and happiness, a wish-fulfilling tree. It is a good vase filled with the treasury of Dharma, surpassing even the wish-fulfilling jewel from which all arises. Loving all equally, it is like a parent. Like a vast and swift river of compassion. Like an unmoving mountain king of joy. Like undisturbed equanimity, like rain clouds. Such a Lama is no different from all the Buddhas. Even if harm is done, if it is connected to the path of happiness, for the person who relies on them with sincere faith, the qualities of higher realms and definite goodness will fall like rain." The meaning of this was also stated earlier: "Hey, son of good family, in order to save from the ocean of samsara

Like a great drum. Like a guide for those who have entered the path of liberation. Like a wish-fulfilling jewel king who dispels the decay of existence. Like a river that extinguishes the fire of karma and afflictions. Like a good cloud that pours down great rain of Dharma. Like a divine drum that makes beings extremely happy. Like a king of medicine who cures the disease of afflictions. Like a lamp that dispels all the darkness of ignorance. Like a wish-fulfilling tree that fulfills all desires. Like a good vase that accomplishes all that is thought of. Like the sun's mandala of immeasurable love. Like the moon's mandala that dispels the suffering of afflictions. Like Vaishravana's son who bestows the wealth of qualities. In short, even if harm is done to a holy person whose mind stream is completely purified by the immeasurable four foundations of the conduct of a Bodhisattva, because they see the nature of sentient beings, they abandon anger and follow after love. If one connects to the path of happiness by taking faith as a close friend, and relies on a disciple from the depths of their heart, they will temporarily attain higher realms, and ultimately, the qualities of definitive goodness will fall like rain. What need is there to say more? As it is said in the Bodhicharyavatara: "To whomever harm is done, they bring happiness, To that source of happiness, I prostrate." This is the praise. The way to rely on someone by generating the understanding of mutual dependence, like pillars and beams, is as follows: Just as a patient relies on a doctor, a traveler relies on an escort, a fearful person relies on a helper, a merchant relies on a guide, and an accomplished person relies on a listener, so should one rely on them out of fear of birth, aging, sickness, and death, and the enemies of afflictions. As it is said in the Gandavyuha Sutra: "Son of good family, you should generate the understanding of yourself as a patient, the understanding of Dharma as medicine, the understanding of diligently practicing as nursing the sick, and the understanding of a spiritual friend as a skilled doctor." It also says: "Son of good family, you should generate the understanding of yourself as a traveler, the understanding of Dharma as giving fearlessness, the understanding of diligently practicing as liberating from all fears, and the understanding of good
