Sentient beings drowning are like an elephant drowning in a swamp. Here, the attachment of minds is like a dog's attachment to a skeleton. Here, sentient beings fall, like moths falling into a flame. Here, sentient beings are trapped, like fish trapped in a net. Here, sentient beings revolve, like a potter's wheel. Here, sentient beings are deceived, like a con man enticing a child. So it is said. Furthermore, since enemies and friends are uncertain, the suffering arises from acting out the causes and effects of benefit and harm in a confused manner. Whether one is a friend to me, or a hostile relative or foe, all sentient beings cannot be fathomed. Taking the side of enemy, friend, or neutral, bestowing benefit and harm is beyond comprehension. In this world, what is known as extremely stable is that this is my friend. This has become an enemy. This is the father. This is a relative on the father's side, based on lineage and blood. This is the mother. This is a relative on the mother's side, possessing the nature of clan and retinue. This is the neutral one. The neutral one is the object of equanimity. The friend is the object of benefit. The enemy is the place of punishment. Son and daughter are the objects of attachment, and one should not cling to the place of increasing manifestation. In a previous life or in a future life, the father becomes the son. The mother becomes the wife. The enemy becomes the friend. Or it may even be reversed, so in the Letter to a Friend it is said: The father is the son, the mother is the wife, beings who have become enemies are also friends, and there are also reversals, and for this reason, there is no certainty in samsara. So it is said. The venerable Katyayana also said: When a householder begged for alms, he saw his enemy transformed into a young son, whom he held in his lap. The father had become a fish, which was being eaten and gnawed. The mother was born as a dog, and was gnawing on the fish bones, so he beat her. Eating the father's flesh, beating the mother, carrying the enemy of bad karma in his lap, the wife gnawing on the husband's bones, the ways of samsara are laughable. So it is said. And again and again, the suffering of connecting the intermediate state, the Blessed One said: Monks, for example, if a person were to take a clod of earth the size of a mustard seed from this great earth, saying: This is my mother. This is the mother of my mother.

If discarded, monks, the soil of this great earth would be exhausted sooner, but the lineage of mothers of people is not like that, I say. The meaning of what was said is expressed by the teacher, the holy one, in verses such as the edge of the mother. In general, due to the fault of repeatedly abandoning various different bodies, like a dust-like body, only one form of my life support, in order to become or want to become, the head and limbs are cut and cut off, piled up will also make Mount Sumeru's height pale in comparison. Hell beings drink boiling copper juice, hungry ghosts eat pus and blood impure things, always shed tears because of pain, more than the rivers that spread in all directions. Thus, mindfulness abides clearly showing, monks, be weary of the realm of existence. What is the reason for that? In the beginningless cycle of existence, in any cycle of existence, the bodies discarded by becoming ants and mosquitoes, if all added up and piled up, would be higher than the mountain king Sumeru, and the tears of crying would be more than the water of the four great seas. During the time of becoming hell and hungry ghosts, the boiling copper juice, blood and pus, pus and snot, drunk countless times, are also more than the four rivers flowing from the four continents to the sea. The head, eyes, limbs, and small limbs cut off for desire are also equal to the number of extremely tiny dust particles of earth, water, fire, and wind in the world of the Ganges sand. So it is said. Now, in order to show the fault of separately experiencing the definite suffering of each of the six realms, starting from hell, it is narrated in order. In particular, the suffering of hell is immeasurable, killing each other, in the resurrection hell, the black line hell cuts with a saw, the wings are sticky and cannot stop, the gathering and destroying hell hits the mountain and hammer with the head, the crying and shouting great hell is tormented and stirred in boiling iron water, the loud shouting hell is burned in the burning iron chamber, the scorching hell pierces the body with burning trees, the extremely hot hell pierces the center of the body with a three-pointed short spear, the outside is wrapped with red-hot iron, tormented in boiling bitter water and in the uninterrupted hell, the burning iron chamber
