It is like eating delicious food that makes the lower abdomen swell. Third, if a mild poison is ingested, it will later cause illness; just as harming powerful deities and great demons will later lead to retaliation. Similarly, in all circumstances, when sinful actions are secretly committed with a mind full of afflictions, the nature of suffering will later manifest, which is the characteristic of the pervasive suffering that is not apparent. Therefore, it is impossible for samsara to exist without being completely or partially bound by the three kinds of suffering, so the nature of samsara is only suffering. As it says in the Karma Vibhaga: "The suffering of existence is like a pit of fire without any chance of coolness, it is frightening and terrifying, like an angry beast, like living among savages, because there is no opportunity for liberation, like the dark throne of a king, because it occurs again and again, like the waves of the ocean, because it destroys the life of the happy realms, like the poison hala hala," and so on. Desire and its objects are related to each other like mutual support and dependence, thus creating a deceptive way. The demon of fierce desire and the poison of objects, which destroy the aggregates and raise their heads, in the prison where they intertwine and collide, there is no chance of liberation, and wretched sorrow increases. In this way, desire is the root of all destruction of the aggregates, because it harms oneself and others, like a poisonous snake raising its head. Because it makes virtuous actions futile, it has the nature of killing like poison. Because it leads to the lower realms, it is the cause of suffering like a weapon. Because it distances one from the perfections of gods and humans, it is like an enemy. Because it will cause deception and regret in the future, it is like fire. Therefore, just as one protects oneself with important things like hearing in the world, one should turn away from it and cultivate patience. As it says in the Letter to a Friend: "For the wavering mind, one should protect it like protecting hearing and a son, protect it like protecting a treasure and life, and turn away from the pleasures of desire like loathing poison, weapons, enemies, and fire." Therefore, for all beings in the desire realm, it is the primary factor in increasing craving and an obstacle to the practice of renunciation.

To show disgust for the pleasure of touch, which is the tight chain binding one in the prison of desire, and as its antidote, it is said: A young woman's body, from another perspective, is full of foul odors and nine openings, a container of impurities, difficult to fill, and even if covered with skin and adorned, please look at it from another perspective. Thus, by revealing the body's foul odor, shape, impure basis, insatiability, and the fact that they all become containers of worms and entrails, its goodness is refuted. By looking at the body and adornments separately, the method of extinguishing the fire of desire is shown. Similarly, desire initially seems pleasurable at the time of enjoyment, but ultimately it is complete suffering and a chain of iron binding one to samsara, therefore it is similar to the Kimpa fruit. The Kimpa fruit only has a beautiful outer skin, but the inside is full of poison, causing all kinds of diseases and suffering. Therefore, compared to the former, desires generate suffering, and the Buddha said it is like the Kimpa fruit. They should be abandoned because these chains bind beings in the prison of samsara. And, in the letter to the Lama, it says: Regarding the jewel earrings, sons, and wives, no matter what kind of attachment arises, whether the bonds are made of iron, wood, or rattan, the Noble Ones say that those are not firm. Just like these teachings. To show being deceived by relying on the five objects, those who desire happiness and strive diligently, being overwhelmed by the power of ignorance, relying on the sharp blade of the weapon of the cause and effect of suffering, completely place themselves in a place of harm. Just like the shape of a lamp and a sandy beach, the deception of sound, smell, taste, and touch is related to the deer, bee, fish, and elephant, these five objects of desire. Actually, everyone desires the fruit of happiness, but only a few discriminate between taking and abandoning its cause. Like this, although one wants to obtain happiness, one does not practice its cause—virtue; although one wants to get rid of suffering, one strongly engages in its cause—non-virtue, such as greed, hatred, ignorance, pride, and jealousy, merely clinging to these arising aspects, like standing on the edge of a razor.
