It is like being born in the realm of Brahma. Furthermore, even performing great deeds such as warfare for the sake of protecting retinues and lands, it is acceptable if the protector is a Bodhisattva who is seized by skillful means. However, if one carefully examines the thoughts and motivations of ordinary beings, it is not protecting others, but merely protecting oneself, and such sins are extremely difficult to bear. As the teacher Aryadeva also said, "Do not commit sins for the sake of Brahmins, monks, gods, guests, parents, consorts, and retinues, lest you have no share in the ripening of hell." Thus it is said. There is one point to dispel doubt about this. If committing sins for the sake of Brahmins and others would turn one into someone who does not want the fruition, why does the fruition not ripen immediately? Thinking this, one mentions "Whatever sinful deeds are done," and so on. Thus it is said that although sinful deeds are not immediately cut off as if with a knife, the fruits of sinful deeds will become manifest when the time of death arrives. The teacher Great Wisdom explained it this way. Furthermore, to show that the noble path does not arise when abiding in worldly dharmas, (it says:) craving gain and desiring only pleasure, taking delight in praise and becoming arrogant when praised, these children are deceived by the eight worldly dharmas, by which the other four are defeated. In this way, there are eight things in the world that are not noble dharmas, but are known as worldly dharmas: craving for gain, desiring pleasure, delighting in praise, becoming arrogant by praise, and the opposites of these: not gaining, being unpleasant, being disliked, and being criticized. These other four dharmas make the mind unhappy; these eight dharmas are what deceive children. Moreover, if one measures the scope of the words and meanings with the treatises of the noble ones and their commentaries, then in the Letter to a Friend it says: "The world-knowing one, gain and no gain, pleasure and displeasure, pleasant and unpleasant, praise and blame, these eight worldly dharmas, please treat them equally and do not let them be the object of my mind." This is the meaning of that.
