Without considering whether they act according to the Dharma, they only look at whether they provide service and offerings to themselves, thus distinguishing between high and low. Without any intention or necessity, due to worldly deluded actions, and during the time when permission has not been granted, disciples find an opportunity for leisure, and the accumulation of virtue is revived. Previously, someone who did not investigate properly mistook a poisonous snake for the shadow of a tree at night and rested on it, resulting in being swallowed by the snake. Therefore, the fault of relying on a non-saint is like sharing rotten fish. The Vinaya says: People desire kusha grass, but if it is entangled with rotten fish, then soon the kusha grass itself will become the same. Therefore, relying on a non-saint is also the same. The Vidyadhara Pitaka says: Teaching others when one does not know oneself, wanting others to mature when one has not matured oneself, not understanding the meaning of the tantras and instructions, foolish words filled with arrogance, selling secret mantras and profound Dharma, relying on support to do Buddhist activities, accumulating sins, hearing little and unable to answer questions, not examining the teacher is the demon of the disciples. Such a person will receive immeasurable sins of deceiving sentient beings. The Wrathful One says: In the name of a eloquent master, following those who are proficient in the Dharma, pretending to be something they are not without knowing, occupying the position of the master to manage the sangha, they will surely fall into the arrogant Great Rudra. In the past, there was a bhikshu named Immaculate Conduct who only pretended to be a yogi. Since those masters who were proficient in the Dharma did not reside, the disciples of those masters' sangha requested: Please inherit the Dharma seat of our master. That bhikshu named Immaculate Conduct developed great arrogance and pretended to be something he was not in the wrong way without knowing, so at that time, at that very moment, the bhikshus with a hundred thousand sangha all together were reborn as Great Rudras, experiencing countless eons. And so on, it is widely spoken in the sutras. Therefore, abandoning mistakes and relying on a true saint is gaining great benefit. The master who possesses all qualities and wealth is the wisdom and compassion of all Buddhas.

Of the realm of. In the land to be tamed, he comes in the form of a man. The root of all accomplishments, the unsurpassed one. Rich in the sacred qualities of learning and scripture. With unsurpassed wisdom of realization, he is skilled in liberating the minds of disciples, and is the embodiment of all Buddhas. As it says in the Sutra of Immaculate Space: Ananda, the Tathagatas do not appear to all sentient beings, but the virtuous friend appears to all, teaching the Dharma and sowing the seeds of liberation. The virtuous friend is even more excellent than the Tathagatas. And as it says in the Tantra: The Buddhas and their sons, To those who are to be tamed, Show forms that are in harmony with them. Moreover, the way in which all accomplishments depend solely on the Lama is stated in the General Sutra: Without relying on the masters, Buddhas will never appear. I have never seen them appear. If they do, it contradicts the words of the holy ones. The all-encompassing conduct of their actions is also uncertain. In the straightforward sense, they are in harmony with all. In the definitive sense, they contradict all conventions. Because they have profound intentions, they are superior to all. Skilled at cutting through doubts, they endure the hardships of wrong practices. As it says in the Arrangement of the Tree: What is a virtuous friend? For the sake of guiding all beings, there is no disagreement when seen. Because they transcend the world, they are not common to all. Because their efforts in all ways are meaningful, they accomplish immeasurable benefits. The praise that matches the example and meaning is: A great boat that ferries across the ocean of existence. A true helmsman who does not err on the supreme path. Like a rain of nectar, destroying the fires of karma and afflictions. Like the sun and moon, dispelling the darkness of ignorance. Like the earth, because the vehicle is extremely vast. Like a wish-fulfilling tree, the source of benefit and happiness. A good vase filled with the treasury of Dharma. More excellent than a wish-fulfilling jewel that produces all things. Like parents, with impartial love for all. Like a great river, with vast and swift compassion. Like the king of mountains, with unchanging joy. Like rain clouds, with undisturbed equanimity. Such a Lama is equal to all Buddhas. Even if harm is done, if it is connected to the path of happiness, then one should rely on them with unfeigned faith.
