Because there is no reason not to become a Buddha (279). The third is that those with inferior faculties who are temporarily liberated from samsara are not ultimately noble ones, but remain in the realm of cessation for ten thousand kalpas, and after being awakened, they are born from a lotus in a pure realm, and then generate the mind of enlightenment and attain the state of Buddhahood. There are also three points to denying the Alaya consciousness: entering samsara, stopping samsara, and the impossibility of arising after cessation. The first point is that if there is no continuously existing Alaya consciousness, then in the initial stages of the fetus, etc., because there are no six consciousnesses, it is impossible to take birth in samsara. The second point is that on one entity of consciousness, it is impossible for both what is to be abandoned and what can abandon to exist, because the five sense consciousnesses have ceased in the state of equanimity of the noble ones. The impossibility of arising after cessation is that the six consciousnesses cannot arise after sleep, because after the previous consciousness has ceased, a long time has passed. In the Lankavatara Sutra it says: 'Consciousness arises from mind, mind arises from Alaya, and all minds also arise from Alaya, arising like waves (280).' Thus it is said. There are three points to denying the Mahayana: there is no reason to establish it, there is a reason to harm it, and there is a similar reason. The first point is that the four seals do not contradict impermanence of conditioned phenomena, because the Sambhogakaya is not a conditioned phenomenon. The Uttaratantra Shastra says: 'Uncreated and spontaneously accomplished.' Thus it is said. It does not contradict suffering, because the desire for happiness in the face of slight suffering is mutually compatible. It does not contradict selflessness, because the Tathagatagarbha is free from elaboration. It does not contradict peace, because the Arhat is not ultimate Nirvana, but only pacifies the gross suffering of samsara. Furthermore, it does not contradict the Vinaya, because for the sake of great necessity, when a small prohibition is allowed, the Bodhisattva will not act rashly and arbitrarily. It does not contradict karma and its results, because the Mahayana also does not admit that karma will exhaust itself. The second point is that because the Mahayana is not true, it is impossible to become a Buddha, because the cause is not complete. The Ornament of the Sutras says: 'Incomplete and contradictory, and not a means, not taught in this way, therefore the vehicle of the Hearers is not called the Mahayana Dharma.'

Thus it is said (281). Third, the Great Vehicle is the Buddha's word, established by scriptural authority. If you deny it, your scriptural authority will also have the same fault. If it is not due to doubt, then all the Buddha's words have the fault of not being the Buddha's words, because outsiders will doubt. In the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra it says: If the Great Vehicle is not the Buddha's word, then the fault is the same for you. Thus it is said. Refuting the absence of the ten bhūmis: Without attaining the ten bhūmis, one cannot obtain the empowerments in the state of an ordinary being, because the accumulation of merit is slightly insufficient. It is reasonable to accumulate merit in the seeing and meditation stages of the noble ones. In the Dharma Rain Sutra it says: When Dipamkara Buddha gave me, the prophecy, at that time, the eighth bhūmi will be attained, and the ten empowerments will also be perfected. Thus it is said. Refuting the Svātantrika Buddha: The Thubpa (Shakyamuni) is not a Buddha, because he is harmed by three kinds of reasoning: He has not purified the karmic ripening of killing the black dwarf, and his feet were hurt by the thorns of the sandalwood tree. He is not omniscient, because he asked about Leaping Joy and Far Flyer. Great compassion is not without change (282), because the benefit of sentient beings is cut off after his death. Second, summarizing the views of each and explaining them, there are two parts: First, the Vaibhāṣika school, which has three aspects: definition, divisions, and tenets. First, the characteristic of the Vaibhāṣika school of the Lesser Vehicle is that it does not even acknowledge the term "self-awareness." Second, it is divided into eighteen schools. Third, from the perspective of the three bases, paths, and results, classifying the objects of knowledge, they believe that there are five aggregates, eighteen dhātus, and twelve āyatanas. Although all objects of knowledge are included in the five aggregates, except for phenomena that are not included in the five aggregates, all objects of knowledge are also included in the eighteen dhātus and twelve āyatanas. If all of these are well summarized, they are included in the two truths. Moreover, according to the Vaibhāṣika school, all phenomena that can be abandoned by the mind that clings to them through analysis or destruction by consciousness are considered to be conventional truths. Their idea is that, for example, a clay pot, when it is not broken, gives rise to the thought, "This is a pot," when one focuses on it. However, if it is broken by something like a hammer, the thought, "This is a pot," does not arise. Name

283) The basis is also the earthen vase itself. The ultimate truth is considered to be a dharma that cannot be abandoned by the mind of self-grasping through any means of destruction or demolition. Examples include indivisible atoms, indivisible moments of consciousness, and unconditioned dharmas, which are considered to be ultimately true. They consider conventional truth and imputation to be synonymous, and ultimate truth and substantial existence to be synonymous. Secondly, regarding the classification of the path: although they only classify the five paths by focusing on the sixteen aspects of the four truths, such as impermanence, they do not accept the classification of the ten bhumis, etc. What is to be abandoned are the two obscurations: afflictive obscurations and non-afflictive ignorance. Thirdly, regarding the result: they believe that by abandoning the afflictive obscurations, one attains the inferior Arhat state, and by abandoning the non-afflictive obscurations, one attains the state of Buddhahood. For example, in the case of our teacher, from the time he first generated the supreme bodhicitta until he subdued the maras in the evening, he was merely an ordinary being abiding in a state similar to liberation. On that night, on the same seat, he perfected the four stages of the path of joining, such as heat, and (284) the fifteen moments of the path of seeing, and then at dawn, through the vajra-like samadhi of the path of meditation, he uprooted the non-afflictive ignorance and attained Buddhahood. They believe that this attainment of Buddhahood is the exhaustion and non-arising of the mind-stream, the wisdom of knowing itself, and not the external physical body, because the physical body is the truth of suffering and is therefore not considered to be a Buddha. However, judging by the mind-stream, the activities after attaining Buddhahood are the activities of a Buddha; judging by the physical body, he is called an Arhat with remainder. Upon passing into nirvana, he enters the realm of the remainderless, and therefore the activity of matter and consciousness ceases, and he no longer manifests form bodies in other realms, nor does he acknowledge the enjoyment body, etc. They do not accept a non-abiding nirvana other than the nirvana with remainder and the nirvana without remainder. Similarly, although they only acknowledge the classification of the four pairs of persons and the eight types of individuals, they do not consider them to be the Sangha Jewel because they are individuals. Nor do they acknowledge the dharmas of learning and non-learning in their mind-streams.
