There is no other category than saying "there is no other." In the Sutra of the Meeting of Father and Son, it says: Worldly wise people say these two truths, which you have not heard from others but have seen for yourself. These are the conventional truth and the ultimate truth. There is no third truth. Thus it is said. The first distinction is shown by "called conventional," and so on. Thus, for conditioned conventional dharmas, there are two ways of appearing: generally, it is the nature of samsara, confused by sudden obscurations. But in its cognition, there are countless distinctions of appearances, among which those that correspond to the degree of appearance and are able to accomplish purposes, such as the sun and lamps dispelling darkness, etc., are the true correct conventional. Another, such as seeing two lamps when someone rubs their eyes, or the reflection of the sun and moon appearing in water, although they appear, they do not accomplish purposes and are known as false conventional. (268) That is, in the two truths, whatever appears similar but can function, is distinguished as true or untrue conventional because of the ability or inability to do so. Thus it is said. Although these two appear separately in words, when examined from the perspective of their nature, they do not appear to be different, because both are unreal and sudden. Therefore, all dharmas that cling to truth are false conventional, and all appearances without clinging to truth are true correct conventional. In the Tree Question Sutra, it says: Just as the moon of the face appears in the perfectly clear center of a mirror, O Tree, know that all dharmas are without inherent existence. Thus it is said. The second is shown by "called ultimate," and so on. The so-called ultimate truth is the way of abiding of one's own nature of mind, all dharmas of samsara and nirvana are primordially without inherent existence, beyond thought and expression, and whether realized or not, it is not established by conceptual mind. In the Root Wisdom, it says: Not known from others, it is peaceful, not elaborated by elaborations, without conceptualization, without difference, that is its characteristic. Thus it is said. These two truths (269) are primordially inseparable, the union of appearance and emptiness, like the arising of the image of the moon in a pond. From the aspect of appearance, it is the conventional truth, and the nature is unestablished.
