Having fully understood the nature of the path, the fruit of attainment at the time of ultimate completion, whether it be form or wisdom, does not come from elsewhere, but is the pacification in the Dharmadhatu of mind and mental phenomena after the defilements of the alaya have been cleared away. Why is this so? As explained extensively above, the ground appearance arises from the spontaneously accomplished ground, which is not fixed in either samsara or nirvana. The habitual tendencies of self-grasping are the objects of knowledge, and the eight consciousnesses that grasp the aspects of the knower and the known are like clouds of accumulated defilements that obscure the primordial purity. But when they are completely purified, the wisdom that possesses the two knowledges is like the sun, shining in its own natural light without obscuration. As it says in the Uttaratantra, "Faults are adventitious, qualities are inherent, just as before, so afterward, it is the unchanging nature of things." And, "The self-luminous nature is like the sun and the sky, freed from the obscuration of the terrible clouds of affliction and knowledge, the stainless Buddha possesses all qualities, the eternal and steadfast Buddha, attained through reliance on the non-conceptual Dharma and discriminating wisdom." Secondly, in the Dzogchen it says, "Five bodies, five wisdoms, five Dharmadhatus." And in the Manjushri Net it says, "Possessing the nature of the five Buddha bodies, the lord of the five pervasive wisdoms." From the nature of the five bodies related to the five wisdoms, the first is indicated by "adventitious" and so on: the essence is pure from the beginning, free from elaboration, and the adventitious defilements, along with their parts, are abandoned and purified. Possessing two purities is the essence of supreme enlightenment, the primordial Buddha is the wishless Dharmadhatu. Just as the full moon, with its elaborations, is clear as an object of perception, so it disappears into the realm of non-appearance in the part of emptiness. In all aspects, the non-conceptual nature, unchanging (562), is symbolized by the realm of space, the eternal and unchanging Vajra body. In the Rangshar it says, "The nature of reality is free from elaboration and does not change, without beginning or end, free from direction or part. The self-appearing Dharmadhatu is completely pure, the primordial Buddha has no cause, and ultimately is not produced by conditions. The essence of emptiness is wisdom, not abiding at the edge of the

"The Lord's Body." And, from the Yeshe Drawa (Wisdom Net): "The Vajra Body, pure in the expanse, unchanging, indestructible, beyond thought." That's the first point. The second is: In such a peaceful expanse endowed with all supreme aspects, the ocean of qualities such as strength is spontaneously accomplished without seeking. Although it appears complete, the appearing aspect is not mixed with the essence, but is clear like a reflection in a mirror. Measured from the aspect of abandonment and realization, it is the body of manifest enlightenment. From the Stainless Light it says: "Transcending the nature of the finest particles, the nature of a reflection in a mirror, possessing all supreme aspects, I prostrate to the Great Seal." And, from Yedra: "Pure because it is free from impurities, accomplished because qualities are increased, united because it is non-dual, therefore it is called the body of manifest enlightenment." That's the second point. The third is: (563) The activity of mind towards the object of knowable ultimate truth is pacified, abandoning the conventional clinging to the knowing mind. One's own awareness does not fall into the extremes of permanence or annihilation, and the play of appearances dissolves into the expanse. Not being obscured by dullness, the subtle wisdom is the knowledge of suchness, the ultimate truth, and the knowledge of all that exists, the conventional truth, without any cessation. It is the basis of all bodies and wisdoms. Utterly equanimous abiding, it is what is seen by those who abide on the ground of no more learning, which is called the peaceful Dharmakaya. From the Magical Illusion Lama it says: "The most subtle wisdom is clear within, the Dharmakaya, the aimless design." And, from the Wisdom Appearance it says: "Because it swirls in the expanse, it is not seen. It is not non-existent, but because it is extremely subtle, like the moon before the first day of the month, deep, peaceful, and extremely subtle." And, from the Longsal (Vast Clarity) it says: "It abides in the ground of great, clear depth, the emptiness of pervasion and the nature of pervasion, uninterrupted appearance from the beginning, the clear aspect of appearance does not cease." Thus, the three bodies of the expanse are the ways in which emptiness abides in the nature of non-substantiality, where nothing is established anywhere, indicated by terms such as 'each' and so on. (564) What is to be done by one's own awareness is the Tathagatagarbha, the essence of the Sugata, which is neither one nor many, transcending existence and non-existence, inconceivable like space, unblemished by signs, all elaboration of transformation is pacified, transcending the realm of speech, by ultimate truth.
