Purify from that place. Thus it is said. If that is not enough, then facing his ear, reciting the names of the deities (545) and mantras is very beneficial, as it is known from many sutras. The meaning that has been explained is that, for the sake of these, Mahamudra, Dzogchen, Madhyamaka, etc., each of their own schools, even if they transcend the realm of thought, are most excellent in all aspects of view, meditation, conduct, and result. From Rangshar, it is said: The pinnacle of all views is said to be Ati Dzogchen. Because it is praised as the most excellent, those who wish to completely destroy samsara should fill their chests with the wisdom that can well distinguish the characteristics, and when the sun of life sets on the western mountain, they should cherish this inconceivable state with one mind, and the practice is the ultimate of the oral instructions of Jamyang Dorje himself. Thus it is said. Even so, considering that beginners cannot directly enter Tögal, he said "like that" and so on. Those individuals of superior faculties who have previously practiced, having encountered this Dharma, can be liberated in that way, but others, due to the sudden causes of self-grasping, do not dissolve in the pure space of the Dharmadhatu. As long as they exist, the ordinary nature of the collection of realizations that are deceived by sudden causes, this lord of samsara, obscures the initial practitioners. For that purpose, there are two types of instructions: the samatha-vipassana which are of the same essence, and the oral instructions of separate methods. In the first aspect, the meditation of the abiding aspect and the wisdom of the clarity aspect, the union of samatha and vipassana, should be equally placed on the meaning that is neither of the two and is free from extremes, as it is said in the Klong Drugpa: In the inexpressible nature of mind, samatha-vipassana arises spontaneously, abiding and following, it is perfected in unwavering meditation. Thus it is said. In the second aspect, two distinctions are also established, namely, that which arises from wisdom and that which arises from oral instructions. That which arises from wisdom is that whatever the expressing sound is, one should accord with it, focusing one's mind and attention single-pointedly on the meaning that is heard, which is samatha, and whatever understanding of the expressed meaning arises from that is the characteristic of vipassana. That which arises from oral instruction is that which transcends terminology and follows the meaning.

Therefore, the mind, in all its aspects, is the unmoving stillness of calm abiding, and knowing its nature as inexpressible and inconceivable is insight. As the noble "Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra" states: "Calm abiding and insight are two, arising from wisdom and arising from instructions. That which arises from wisdom is contemplating the words of the twelve categories of scriptures, which is calm abiding; realizing their meaning is insight. That which arises from instructions is not allowing the mind of the pith instructions to waver, which is calm abiding; realizing its meaning is insight." Thus it is. In short, for individuals of superior faculties, whatever negative thoughts arise, they are relaxed into being merely the play of the Dharmakāya, and if they become a state of equality between good and bad, then there is no need to rely on other antidotes. As the "Kunjed Gyalpo Tantra" states: "Without artificiality, in the intention of the Victorious Ones, whatever thoughts of mind and mental factors arise, knowing that they abide in the unborn state, one is free from all concepts of action, effort, and signs." Thus it is. For individuals of middling faculties, through familiarity with the view that is free from dullness and agitation, the state of unbornness, the clarity of intrinsic nature, and the path of uniting calm abiding and insight, eventually all thoughts of good and bad dissolve into the expanse and are liberated. As the "Samadhiraja Sutra" states: "Just as the sky is slightly without clouds, in an instant, a circle of clouds appears, arising and then ceasing, there is no circle of clouds; one should investigate from where it first arose. Know all phenomena in the same way." Thus it is. For those of inferior faculties, initially seeking only calm abiding, one should gain stability in whatever one focuses on. As the "Ornament of the Sutras" states: "Having fixed the mind on the object of focus, one should not let that continuity be distracted." Thus it is. Then, one should strive for the wisdom of insight, the wisdom of individual examination. As the "Questions of Maitreya" states: "Having accomplished calm abiding, one should train in insight." Thus it is. In this way, when the steps are completed to the measure, at the final time, just as when one goes to the Golden Island, one does not find even a speck of dust in the form of earth and stones, whatever thoughts of mind and mental factors arise, appearance and mind are inseparable, appearing as great liberation in the ground, free from the session of meditation. As the "Rangshar" states: "The nature of reality, without grasping, is the realm of self-luminous bliss, non-conceptual, pervading space, playing in all of reality, the nature of reality without grasping, in its own place."
