其中说:dam(藏文,梵文天城体:दम्,梵文罗马拟音:dam,汉语字面意思:誓)意为束缚,如果解脱则会衰败。tshig(藏文,梵文天城体:चिक्,梵文罗马拟音:cik,汉语字面意思:誓)意为如果违越,则会感受火的痛苦。

And eliminate clinging. Through the Completion Stage, eliminate the clinging to illusion, so that everything appears as deities and wisdom. The ultimate wisdom of co-emergent bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality arises. Such profound and unsurpassed Completion Stage practices are taught only in the unsurpassed tantras; they are not mentioned in the lower tantras. Therefore, fortunate and intelligent individuals who wish to attain the state of the Great Vajradhara in one lifetime should cherish this extremely hidden and profound shortcut (444) more than their own lives. Now, to generally show how to protect the samaya, which is the life force for obtaining the accomplishments of mantra, the third (chapter) and so on are taught. Third, the samaya that becomes a companion conforming to those paths of skillful liberation is that, having entered the mantra, one protects the vows without degenerating. The special characteristics of its practice are grasped by means of wisdom and samadhi, etc., according to one's own capacity. When the acceptance and rejection of dependent arising, which become antidotes to afflictions, are not abandoned, it is like when potent poison enters the peacock's neck, it makes its youth even more beautiful. Thus, it is practiced as an ornament of inconceivable wisdom. The distinctions between samaya and vows are explained by "those," etc. That is, some people are confused about the difference between samaya and vows, so it is like this: Samaya should never be transgressed, while vows are to be kept, and there are also decisions not to do things if necessary. These two are the same in essence, but are distinguished from different perspectives. If it is a mantra vow, then it is mixed with samaya, and one must take all three vows before entering the four empowerments (445). If it is samaya, then it will not be mixed with vows, because there is no limit of permission and prohibition. The etymological explanation is: Samaya In the "Samaya Arrangement," it says: Sa (藏文,梵文天城体:स,梵文罗马拟音:sa,汉语字面意思:Sa) means arising; Ma (藏文,梵文天城体:म,梵文罗马拟音:ma,汉语字面意思:Ma) means not degenerating; it gives all accomplishments. Ya (藏文,梵文天城体:य,梵文罗马拟音:ya,汉语字面意思:Ya) means if it degenerates, it declines. And, in Tibetan, it is called "dam tshig (vow)." It says: Dam (藏文,梵文天城体:दम्,梵文罗马拟音:dam,汉语字面意思:Dam) means bound; if it is released, it degenerates. Tshig (藏文,梵文天城体:चिक्,梵文罗马拟音:cik,汉语字面意思:Tshig) means if it is transgressed, one experiences the suffering of fire. If one keeps it purely and properly, it burns the side of afflictions; if one violates it, one falls.

Because of the ripening of karma, one's own continuum is firmly grasped, and because it is burned by the fire of hell, it is called samaya (vow). To take a vow with a mind that diligently possesses the nature of the samaya is called samvara (vow). So, are these two transgressible or not? The latter is known as the common cause and effect, while the former is exhausted only in the context of the Characteristics School, which is a great difference. It is shown by "all the vessels of samaya," etc., that the general essential meaning of all ripening and liberation is that without obtaining the mantra samvara, and even if obtained, if the mind does not abide in its own nature due to madness, etc., there is neither downfall nor accomplishment. One who possesses the mantra samvara, and who constantly does not degenerate, does not abandon it, and whose awareness abides naturally in ease (446), is a vessel for both downfall and accomplishment. It is shown by "the difference between Kuntis and gross offenses," etc., that the thirteen root downfalls other than the fifth root downfall of abandoning bodhicitta are called Kuntis. If one is touched by any of those faults, and still does not give up the desire to do that thing, and has no regret for the fault, and has a sense of shame on one's own part, and has no sense of embarrassment on the part of others, that is, summarizing the latter two. If that evil motivation, which possesses all three dharmas, persists until the actual deed is completed, it becomes a complete Kunti karma, that is, it becomes a great downfall. At the time when such a motivation arises, thinking of the fault, etc., if it is interrupted before the actual deed is completed, and there is no continuity, or if any one of the three dharmas is not complete, because the limbs of the deed are not complete, it becomes a gross offense, but not a defeat. It is shown by "the way not to be confused about the antidote to the root downfall," etc., that the individual who has obtained such a samvara should know all the roots and branches of the place to be known, not abandon them in mind, and not discard them in body, that is, constantly dividing the three periods of the day and the three periods of the night into six parts (447). In each part, carefully examine whether the faults of the fourteen root downfalls have occurred or not, and if one is stained by the fault, then generate regret and think only of the means of remedy. If one is not stained, then cultivate joy.
