As it is said, "Confidence arises from practical experience," the words of the Vajra verses are explained with the intention of the meaning lineage, and those confusing tantras are arranged like pearls strung on a thread. Those (738) twisted instructions are straightened like stretching a snake's knot. Those hidden oral instructions are revealed like the sun dispelling darkness, and the meaning of the scriptures is distinguished with the view of correct determination. For the Nyingma tradition's four rivers of transmission and the unbroken lineage of explanation of the three sections of Sutra, Illusion, and Mind, it is necessary to explain with the ocean-like treatises of the oral instructions of the Omniscient Lord of Speech. Thus, when explaining the stages of the path from the three aspects of preparation, main practice, and subsequent practice, it is the interval of Dharma gatherings, chapters, or sessions. No matter how the words are explained, all the meanings must be completely collected and focused on the object of meditation, and must be integrated into the disciple's mindstream. At appropriate times, the biographies of previous accomplished masters should be told, as well as the wonderful stories of reincarnations with necessary connections, dispelling dullness, revealing the disciple's faults, etc., mastering the oral instructions of taming with skillful means, just as tsatsas arise from a carved bowl, being able to integrate all the guru's compassion and blessings into the disciple's mindstream. (739) In particular, it is also a characteristic of inner Buddhists to connect each session with the generation of bodhicitta at the beginning and the dedication and aspiration of no object at the end, as it is said: In "Vast Expanse of Clarity" it says: At the time of Dharma gatherings, chapters, and sessions, gather up above and gather up below, collect all the meanings. Steadily place the object of meditation, integrate the understanding of what is to be thought. At appropriate times, tell stories, etc., dispel dullness with wonderful words, in order to reveal the disciple's faults, beat the small drum of previous stories, afterwards make dedication and aspiration, cherish all with loving bodhicitta. Thus, if skilled in showing practice, the guru is like a Buddha carved bowl, with auspicious Dharma patterns, the disciple is like a worthy vessel, put it in, the patterns of the carved bowl will be imprinted on it, the three kayas will instantly transform, thus the teacher cherishes practice. As such, the preparations and actions that have been said are very important, (740) first of all, it must be done without being defiled by the self-created impurities that feed on the Dharma.

Offer the mandala. In order to establish all sentient beings, as vast as the sky, in the state of unsurpassed, perfectly complete Buddhahood. Relying on the nectar of the speech of the Teacher, the Sugata, the essence of all eighty-four thousand collections of teachings, the supreme peak of the Vehicle, the Great Perfection, with unwavering devotion, thinking that one is entering the path to realize its fruit. As it says in the sutra, "Listen well and keep it in mind," therefore, abandoning the three faults of the vessel, regarding oneself as a very sick patient, the teacher as a doctor, and diligent practice as internal medicine. Regarding the Thus-Gone One as a noble being, abiding in the Dharma, possessing these six recognitions. As it says in the Kuntuzangpo's Tantra: Sit in the lotus position in a comfortable place. Do not move from one place. If there is a hat, put it in front. If there is hair, let it hang down in front. Place the hands together in the mudra (741) in front. Stop all actions with the hands. Look at the face of the lama with the eyes. Listen to the words of the lama with the ears. Settle the meaning of the words with the mind. Ask for clarification when in doubt. Abandon whispering words in the mouth. Stretching the legs or leaning to the side is inappropriate. Abandon unauthorized thrones, cushions, and platforms. Do not cover the head when not sick. Do not carry weapons when there are no enemies. Do not carry a staff when not old. Abandon all actions that are not in accordance with the Dharma. Analyze and connect the meaning of each word. At the end of the Dharma session, connect the beginning and the end with great diligence. Abandon all ordinary activities. Practice conscientiously according to the Dharma and the precepts. As it is said, clarify all motivation and behavior and listen. At this time, if explaining with other instructions such as the Nyingthig Yabzhi, it will explain the greatness of the Dharma and the lineage, and after guiding the student to generate faith according to their capacity (742), the Son's Letter says, "Thinking that all compounded things are impermanent," therefore, first inferring from the scriptures and thinking: We rely solely on the power of the excellent accumulation of past deeds to obtain this precious human body of leisure and endowment, which is difficult to find in terms of examples and numbers. How fortunate! If one thinks about impermanence, the sudden disasters are endless. If one dies tonight and becomes a corpse lying in bed tomorrow morning, what will happen?

Without even contemplating light or non-light, they meet death in a state of utter bewilderment. Some, though aware that death will come, think they will have much joy before they age, and so they diligently engage in rituals and various methods, focusing solely on outward words and hopes, completely dominated by this desire. Just as people prepare food and provisions for the coming month, do we have the confidence that at that time, we will be reborn as a creature with horns on its head and face, unlike this body, and that not even a bone (743) of this body will remain? If we have no confidence, then there will be no means at that time. The Sutra on Advice to Kings states: Great King, for example, if four steep, firm, and high mountains collapse from four directions, crushing and gathering together grass, trees, and all living beings, it is not easy to quickly escape, resist with strength, deceive with wealth, or avert with objects, mantras, and medicine. Similarly, all sentient beings face four great terrors: sickness, old age, death, and decay. It is not easy to quickly escape, resist with strength, deceive with wealth, or avert with objects, mantras, and medicine. Thus it is said. Therefore, we will certainly die. The Sutra on Eliminating Sorrow states: If even the bodies (744) of the Buddhas, adorned with marks and signs, the vajra bodies, are impermanent, what need is there to mention sentient beings like trees in water? Therefore, even our teacher Shakyamuni, who attained freedom over birth and death, lay down on his final bed to tame those disciples who clung to permanence, causing sorrow. Similarly, the emanations of Indian and Tibetan pandits, siddhas, kings, ministers, and bodhisattvas came and made such contributions to the Dharma. Such stories are recorded in histories and biographies, but it is evident that none of them remain on Jomo Ri Mountain, which is confirmed by direct perception, causing heartache. So many of our relatives, friends, and beings in the intermediate state, who existed last year, yesterday, or even last month, have already gone to another world, disappearing without a trace.
