The term "Yoga" refers to the tantras of Anu Yoga; adding "Utmost Yoga," which is the tantra of Ati Yoga, a total of six tantras are formed. Regarding the classification of tantras, some Indian scholars consider there to be seven or five. Considering Anu and Ati as components of a vehicle seems to be a self-proclaimed view of the Nyingma school, which is an overstatement. Generally, the meaning of a vehicle is: although views differ, they all elevate from below to above, hence they are called "vehicles," as stated in the 'Collection of Precious Qualities.' Specifically, firstly, the three vehicles of external characteristics sequentially elevate practitioners to the state of Arhat, solitary Buddhas like rhinoceros horns, and the eleven-faced All-Illuminating One, hence they are called "vehicles." Secondly, the three vehicles of external taming tantras sequentially elevate practitioners to the ground of the three-family Vajradhara, the ground of the four-family sky-goers, and the ground of the five-family Dense Array Pure Land, hence they are called "vehicles." Thirdly, the three types of internal skillful means tantras sequentially elevate practitioners to the ground of the letter-wheel mandala great assembly, the ground of great bliss, and the ground of wisdom guru, hence the etymological explanation of "vehicle" is established. If someone objects that, from the perspective of wisdom, it should not be the object of elevation, this is also incorrect. Even though it is wisdom, there is a possibility of it becoming manifest, hence it is called that. If that is the case, then the view of freedom from elaboration is also wisdom, but since the stages of the path have arisen, there is no fault of contradiction. The 'Uttaratantra' states: "Forms have inferior, intermediate, and superior, like the sky." Just as containers of earth, wood, and jewels have good and bad qualities, but the sky within them has no good or bad qualities, similarly, by analogy, the differences in the power of liberation from defilements are distinguished. Wisdom also has the possibility of becoming manifest, hence it is "yana." From the perspective of the meaning expressed, limiting and defining the vehicle is intolerable. The 'Lankavatara Sutra' states: "As long as there is no thought, there is no vehicle; as long as there is thought, the door of the vehicle is immeasurable." Because the sutra states that the vehicle is inconceivable, there is no reason to find fault with it. In any case, those who claim to have their own views are all...

Those with short intelligence and limited wisdom are alarmed by the inconceivable names of Dharma and philosophical tenets, and say they are untrue. This is like cattle and buffaloes thinking that because we animals have horns, humans and gods must also have horns. As mentioned above, there are also those who, like followers of non-Buddhist scriptures, are keen on meaningless debates and pursue coarse thoughts that are irrelevant to liberation. They do not believe that in the holy land of India, the tantras of the Ancient Secret Mantra, especially the meaning lineage of the Luminous Heart Essence, were practiced by Vidyadharas in a very secret manner and completely dissolved into the immaculate light body. We Tibetans have not used the great secret and profound teachings as merchandise for seeking material benefits, nor have we understood the key point of transmitting these teachings in the form of oral transmission to the most excellent and mature disciples, without spreading them widely. Later, in order to prevent those who separate view and conduct and are attached to names from wantonly proclaiming the great secret, these Dharma teachings were hidden as treasures in Vajrasana (Bodh Gaya), so Indians are not generally aware of them. During the early dissemination period, those translators and pandits who were no different from the actual Buddha unlocked the mind treasures of the Vidyadharas, so now in Tibet, people should not be surprised by this. It is unreasonable to conclude that the luminous tantras do not exist in the holy land of India simply because one has not seen them. The Omniscient Second Buddha (Longchenpa) said: 'The tantras of India were also brought from places such as Oddiyana, Shambhala, and Malaya by great accomplished ones. Not all tantras were originally in India, and even if they were, they were only mentioned occasionally, so it is impossible to see them all. Can't the scriptures that are not included in the catalog of scriptures in small temples be used as the basis for other scriptures? Therefore, one should not slander the great guides of the past.' The meaning of this statement seems clear. Some people do not acknowledge these teachings from the beginning because they do not understand the special nature of the three-kayas lineage of the teacher, so they push themselves and others, along with their followers, into the abyss of error with strong bias and wrong ideas.
