Since it only shows that mental factors, objects, and forms are merely imputed, the Vaibhashika school holds that consciousness arises from truly established objects and faculties, which is a very crude view. However, the non-Buddhists distinguish the imputed self from the permanent self with mastery, thus they gradually have the potential to attain liberation. Furthermore, the Kashmir Vaibhashikas and others believe that conditioned phenomena are also impermanent, destroyed in an instant, and that the self of a person is merely imputed by thought and does not exist as a substance. Therefore, their tenets are better than the former. The Sautrantika school believes that even the coarse continuum of forms and the continuum of consciousness are not truly existent. They consider past and future dharmas, unconditioned dharmas, and non-associated compositional factors to be merely imputed. They assert that present atoms and momentary consciousness are indivisible and truly established. The eye consciousness does not actually see form directly; what appears to be seen is the appearance of form in the eye consciousness, known as the form-image, which is transformed by consciousness. They believe that the appearing image has a form-generating function, and that forms and other objects exist as external entities. The Chittamatra school believes that although objects such as forms appear to exist externally, they are merely appearances of the internal apprehending consciousness, and do not exist externally, similar to forms in a dream. Therefore, although external objects do not exist, the apprehended aspect that appears to exist has the cause of appearing as form because the apprehending consciousness sees itself. Thus, the truly established knowing consciousness that appears as an external object, its nature of consciousness (869) is merely the reverse of the apprehending and apprehended, and is considered the wisdom of name. Therefore, they claim to have refuted the apprehending and apprehended in their own system. However, since they separate the nature of the apprehending from consciousness and divide it into the knowing consciousness part that appears as an object, they merely acknowledge that the apprehending and apprehended are not different entities. The great Madhyamaka school, which is the pinnacle of the four schools, believes that the five aggregates such as form, the nature of mind, the eight collections of consciousness, non-associated compositional factors, conditioned phenomena, unconditioned phenomena such as space, and all phenomena imputed as non-existent are conventional truth, and their nature of non-inherent existence is ultimate truth. They believe that these two are different only in designation, but in terms of essence, they are either one or different.

Nowhere can it be expressed, and from the Madhyamaka text "Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes," it shows the principle of transcending all fabrications of existence and non-existence, being and non-being. It says: "The unreal, completely conceptualized is existent; in it, the two are non-existent; emptiness is present in it; in it, that is also non-existent; neither empty nor non-empty; thus, everything is explained; because of existence, non-existence, and existence; that is the Middle Way." Thus, the consciousness that appears as various phenomena is merely a non-veridical conceptualization, which exists conventionally. However, the perceived and perceiver aspects of its appearance are merely imputed by the mind. Therefore, they do not exist even conventionally, and thus it is liberated from the two extremes. In this way, the merely conventional conceptualization exists, and thus it is liberated from the extremes of annihilation and non-existence. Because it transcends the imputation of perceived and perceiver and dependent phenomena, it is liberated from the extremes of permanence and existence. In that state, although the nature of emptiness exists as the nature of reality, the real phenomena of self-nature, which are distinguished by the two truths, cannot exist in the knowable. Regarding that principle, the Ornament of the Sutras says: "The Suchness is in all (870), although there is no difference, it is pure; therefore, the Tathagata is its nature; all beings possess that essence." That is so. That is also because it abides in the minds of sentient beings as the essence, so it is necessary to abandon the two obscurations through the power of the path truth. Because it abides in the minds of the Buddhas in a manifest way, it is impossible to abandon the two obscurations in the realm of reality. Therefore, in order to abandon the obscurations from the perspective of the individual's mind, it is determined that the completely conceptualized does not exist even conventionally, and that the dependent only exists conventionally, and that the perfectly established is free from all elaborations. Therefore, the ways of establishing the tenets of self-emptiness and other-emptiness, and the establishment of different terms, which appear to be different, are also the principle of self-liberation and purity together with the pure wisdom that establishes the tenets, as stated in the Sutra Requested by the King of Dharanis: "Because it is exhausted from the root, therefore it is called exhausted." Third, in this land of snow mountains, due to the power of the activities of the Buddhas, there are eight different traditions and transmissions of the practice lineage teachings. Among them, for the yogi Karuna, there are fifteen instructions of the Indian Dakinis. In the terminology of the completion stage teachings, benefit, harm, abandonment, and realization (phan gnod spangs rtog).
