If there is not even a slight understanding of both benefits, then that is not the biography of a holy being. As it says in the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra: "Listening to the Dharma is for the sake of a little gain, wanting to ask questions, wanting to read, wanting to transmit, wanting to recite, wanting to meditate and listen, the Dharma speaker (803) who does not want to do so for the sake of a little gain should be known as the work of a demon." Therefore, thinking only of gaining profit is also not good. For those with the karma of the first person, and those with obscured consciousness, those who are difficult to tame and difficult to guide, do not be discouraged or disheartened. Explain again and again, ask again and again, rely on metaphors to connect with the meaning. Strive to generate understanding through Dharma histories, biographies, and even jokes and stories. Therefore, no matter how high or low the wisdom is, when teaching the Dharma, first recite seven times the wisdom mantra for cutting off the seven obstacles as stated in the Sutra Requested by Ocean of Wisdom. Whether it is a Sutra or Tantra to be held, clarify yourself as the author and teacher of that Dharma, and explain it with Bodhicitta. Especially when performing empowerments and other rituals, if you do not diligently perform exorcism and generation stage practices, it is like the story of a former master who went to a place of empowerment in a dream, and a great demon struck the master from the throne, seeing himself fall to the ground, and soon after passed away. According to this story, those who are now known to act for the benefit of others should know that this is the cause of instability, and first mature themselves before skillfully liberating others. Eighth, recitation is the fruit of the Dharani of non-forgetting. Why? Because what was previously memorized, if not recited later, cannot overcome obstacles. Remembering without forgetting is very important. The immeasurable merit of recitation, as stated in the Samantabhadra's Prayer: "Whether explaining, showing, or reading the aspiration of good conduct, the Buddha knows its ripening result, do not doubt the supreme Bodhi." This shows that the benefits of teaching the Holy Dharma are inconceivable, so all rituals and small Dharanis have endless benefits (804). Furthermore, both reading and reciting bring merit.

Even if equal in quantity, the difference in speed is like the movement of a chariot and the sun and moon. Because recitation is very fast, the power of accumulating merit is great. For example, the great scholar Vasubandhu once recited the twelve scriptures many times, and the Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita could be recited in one or two hours, so the extent of fast and slow is immeasurable. Sitting inside a large copper vessel filled with sesame oil and reciting continuously for fifteen days and nights is just a symbol. The sound of it was heard by the pigeons under the eaves, reducing karmic obscurations, and immediately reincarnated as the great scholar Lodro Tendar (Blo gros brtan pa), which also symbolizes the benefit of hearing the sound. Do not think that this is something others cannot do, because those who can remember dreams can recite many names in one hour, which is possible because the coarse wind-mind leads to results beyond recitation. If someone constantly recites from their own perspective, then for as long as they live, the accumulation of merit will increase. As the great scholar Vagishvara (Ngag gi dbang phyug) said: 'The one who subdues the power of Dharma practice, for as long as their life lasts in samsara, for that long they accumulate merit and so on, the causes of enlightenment greatly increase.' Therefore, even if those who enter the path of Dharma are the same, the difference between diligence and non-diligence in accumulation and purification is like the difference between a devotee obtaining a wish-fulfilling jewel and a turtle falling asleep. The latter is: 'The distance between the sky and the earth is very long, the distance between the near and far shores of the ocean is very long, the distance between the eastern and western mountains is even longer, the distance between straying and the sacred Dharma is even longer.' Therefore, know that this is the characteristic of going from light to darkness. Ninth, the mind: For the five dharmas of listening, etc., just mentioned, it is necessary to analyze with the pure wisdom (805) arising from thought. Because listening and reading, etc., without any thought or analysis of the meaning of the words, are like a parrot's speech. Furthermore, if the mind is distracted elsewhere and mindfulness is not maintained, then Dharma practice is fruitless, as the Bodhicharyavatara says: 'The fruits of body and speech, are not accomplished by diligent practice. Recitation, asceticism, and other virtues, practiced for a long time, without'
