If you rely on the leader, the future will be better. This time it's right to listen to me.” Having said this, the chief of desire became angry and said, “Hey hey! Although you were appointed as the leader by the power of merit, the chief of desire is more skilled in (753) action. Not even knowing the way to immediate happiness and survival, offering bad advice, is an enemy that destroys happiness. Extremely narrow-minded, regarding past memories, all appearances seem like enemies and suspicions. Such narrow-mindedness is like the flapping of foolish wings. There is no sign of danger anywhere. Short-sighted advice is like a sandcastle. Listening to him, the herd of wild animals will perish. If you want to escape, flee to the high rocky mountain. It is enough for me to be the leader of the wild animals.” Having said these words, the moon of wisdom gave rise to unbearable compassion, and with a weary heart, he said, “Alas, alas, in the ocean of samsara, all kinds of wonderful sights appear. Although seeing the sights is pleasing, the heart is restless. If one measures the retribution of evil words, weariness arises. Not seeing that the mountain behind is about to collapse, only caring to build a dam in the ditch in front. Many sentient beings like you fill the earth. I spoke beneficial words, but you misunderstood. Sentient beings controlled by karma are so pitiful. When will there be a time of great regret. Disappointed in oneself, unable to do anything from suffering. The leader has been in a dream for a long time. If there are still sensible wild animals, come back now. Those who are self-righteous and arrogant, stay here. Even if you die from doubt, it is your own death. Because you have been deceived by hope too much, you will be killed by others. I am one who has bodhicitta in the body of an animal. I will go to cultivate the mind of cherishing others more than oneself. Because you misunderstand honest teachings, may the great herd of animals waiting for death be born as my disciples in the future.” Saying this, with tears in his eyes, he ran from the north to the top of a high rocky mountain, pricked up his ears, and stood there. The story of the wild animal, called 'The Messenger of Appearance,' is the first chapter, in which the virtuous friend urges weariness of samsara. Then, the chief of the wild animals, the chief of desire, happily led all the wild animals following him, as if a turquoise mandala was laid out on the green grassland.

While that hunter indulged in roaming freely on the vast land, enjoying play and joy, he had already built a hall in the great city of Avici Hell. He was very eager to go there, but due to the residue of karma, an old hunter was delayed. Because he had accumulated evil deeds continuously for many lifetimes, he was very enthusiastic about non-meritorious things and was tightly bound by the five bonds. In his dream, he dreamed that on a grassland like a spread of golden sand, countless beasts were playing and frolicking, and the hunter himself was in the center playing a flute that incorporated the songs of three sufferings. The beasts gathered to listen to the sound of the flute and gradually approached him. After that, he woke up from his sleep and instantly recalled the dream just now. The seed of samsara, through a keen and changeable consciousness, aroused his afflictions, and he got up from the bed, put on various weapons such as bows and arrows, ropes, etc., and led many hounds that matched his karma, with ugly shapes and poisonous fangs, and roamed as usual, came to the quiet valley. He saw that, as in the dream, on a grassland like a spread of golden sand, many lovely beasts were playing and frolicking leisurely. So, he hid the hounds and weapons in the valley, and disguised himself as an old shepherd looking for lost livestock, experiencing the torment of three sufferings of cold, hunger, and loneliness, and gradually approached the beasts. The leader of the beasts, a satisfying stag, saw him and said, "Hey, beasts, please listen to me! This figure staggers, with strange movements, neither human nor ghost, making one doubtful. Seeing this figure, my heart feels uneasy. But it is unlikely that he is a hunter, because a hunter should carry a banner of meteoric iron, a small quiver of arrows, and deadly arrowheads coated with poison. He didn't bring anything. Let's go to the water's edge ahead to drink water!" After saying that, he led the other beast friends towards the ditch.
