Therefore, the cause for temporarily attaining higher realms and ultimately achieving the qualities of definite goodness is none other than the two accumulations of merit and wisdom. Thus, our teacher also relied on and habituated himself to the two accumulations for countless eons. Here, let us briefly discuss merit. On the path where cause and effect ripen in sequence, the accumulation of merit alone is most crucial. Since all doors of accumulating merit are summarized into the seven branches, one should constantly train in them with great mental strength, so that the accumulations of countless eons can be quickly perfected, like the bodhisattva Samantabhadra. Among them, let us briefly discuss the second branch, offering. For bodhisattvas who have entered the practice, the first door to be particularly trained in is the perfection of generosity. There are three types: giving, great giving, and supreme giving. However, all three depend on habituating oneself to the ultimate mind of giving. Therefore, dedicating one's body, possessions, and all roots of virtue to the Three Jewels is a supreme offering. There are two types of offerings: superior offerings and unsurpassed offerings. The former refers to offering with a mind that is not bound by stinginess or miserliness, but arises from the depths of the heart with joy in giving, with pure and clean offerings, such as the best tsampa and smooth butter, offering the ultimate happiness of honesty and delight to the Three Jewels. However, nowadays (724), some people have the intention of deceiving the objects of offering, offering inferior things to the Three Jewels, even consuming the essence of the butter themselves and offering bland tea residue. Such actions should not be done. However, for those who have little power, if they can offer with offerings within their means, such as things given to them by others, it is not wrong, because good and evil follow the good and evil of intention. Similarly, when preparing food, one should not make thin offering cakes with the idea of making them easy to prepare. As Atisha said, "Tibetans will not become rich because they make thin torma." Therefore, one should make food that is edible for oneself. Even when offering to the Three Jewels, one should think that one is independent and not have a stingy mind. To whomever

Therefore, if there is no prohibition of discontinuance from now on, then it is good to give only bad teachings, because: If I do not completely abandon, I cannot get rid of suffering, just as fire gives fire, I cannot completely get rid of burning. Because it is said like that. Therefore, one should remember the biographies of some holy lamas of the past who discarded thousands of roots and stems into piles, thereby learning to destroy greed. Furthermore, with the idea of offering to the close local deities, arrange with clean and true objects, and build in a special way, the way of arrangement should also be like this, as it says, "With the most excellent of arrangements, offer to those Buddhas." Furthermore, the word "arrangement," Nagarjuna and Good Ornament say, "Here the word 'arrangement' is a synonym for collection, offering to all the Buddhas with the most excellent of all the divine objects of gods and humans." (725) On the other hand, Shakya Mitra says, "Arrangement is high buildings, pavilions, temples, temples with vases, pure rooms full of wealth, etc., from those made of sandalwood, etc., to all forms made of bricks, etc." Furthermore, if we speak of the excellence of arrangement from the way of arrangement, we can build four or five-tiered offering tables, and arrange offerings such as water offerings in order from the upper level. However, bright lights are easily damaged by smoke, so it is best to arrange them in a low place that is not higher than the upper level or close to food. Furthermore, like the upper offering, ten offering tables that can hold hundreds of sets of five offerings can be prepared and arranged. Furthermore, taking the mandala as an example, the way of offering in the tantric ritual symbolized by the round offering is merely a legend about the distinctions between father tantra and mother tantra, long secret mantras, and Buddhist and Bon teachings, but there is not much reason other than speculation. If we combine the meaning that everything in the Mahayana Dharma, represented by the six perfections, is the essence of the union of skillful means and wisdom, then the offerings are the part of skillful means, manifestation, and bliss, which is the supreme offering, and the object of offering is the Buddha and Bodhi.
