Of the nine aspirations, the first is: Thus, offering prostrations and offerings, etc., through two shlokas, may all those who have entered the profound secret mantra generation and completion stage path, both self and others, be purified of all conceptual obscurations of the three doors. May they realize the view that is the characteristic of the cause of knowledge, and meditate on the samadhi that is the characteristic of the condition of entering. May the two, view and meditation, merge into one, and may the two accumulations be completed simultaneously. May those who have not obtained the supreme accomplishment of freedom over birth and death, obtain the Vidyadhara of Maturation, whose mind is the same as the Path of Seeing of the causal vehicle; may they obtain the Life-Empowerment Vidyadhara, whose mind is the same as the Bodhisattva abiding on the eighth ground of the causal vehicle, and who has freedom over rebirth; may they obtain the Mahamudra Vidyadhara, whose mind is the same as the Path of Liberation of the causal vehicle; and may they obtain the Spontaneous Accomplishment Vidyadhara, whose mind is the same as the ultimate cause, Samantabhadra, and so forth, aspiring to obtain the four Vidyadharas. Through the third shloka, may all beings who are connected to me and who are to be tamed, through the excellence of the mantra path, overcome the ground of the Wisdom Guru and never regress. The second is, the Bodhisattvas who abide on the ground of truth, these Vidyadharas have four different names in order: Yoga, Maha Yoga, Differentiating Yoga, and Realization Yoga. Aspirations for the Bodhisattvas: May these Bodhisattvas, although they do not have manifest afflictive obscurations, destroy the subtle obscurations of knowledge with the antidote of vajra-like samadhi, and gradually perfect themselves in the state of the ten grounds free from elaboration, reaching the ultimate cause, the ground of Samantabhadra. May they take the three vows as the external basis for the qualities, practice the five paths and ten grounds of the union of the two truths, and may the impurities to be abandoned be like a person in the womb of an evil woman up to the seventh ground, as stated in the Uttaratantra, and may the three pure grounds be like gold in the middle of black, and may the result be a Buddha with twofold purity. May they reach the land of light, thus abiding on the great ground of truth.

Having realized the absence, one meditates on the twelve links of dependent origination in forward and reverse order, aspiring to ultimately manifest the fruit of Buddhahood in either of two states: abiding alone like a rhinoceros horn, or abiding in a group like a swarm of bees. We, who consider ourselves kings, also recite verses such as the twelve links of dependent origination. Differentiating by rhinoceros horn and the three types of gathering practices, from a hundred great eons to fifteen lifetimes or less, knowing that the basis accumulated does not have the fortune to attain enlightenment, one becomes skilled in hearing and thinking in the blue lotus of the Hearers. Relying on making three types of aspirations, after that lifetime, one is born into a world without Buddhas or Hearers, and upon seeing the root of a cemetery, one becomes disgusted, thinking: Alas, where did these bones come from? They came from aging and death. Where did aging and death come from? And so on, after investigating the forward order of dependent origination, one thinks about how to escape from this. Furthermore, because ignorance ceases, up to aging and death also cease, therefore the root of the reverse order of dependent origination is severed. The realization of the path, such as the path of joining, arises naturally in the continuum, and at the end of the path of meditation, one manifests the two wisdoms of knowing cessation and knowing non-arising, thereby attaining the Arhat fruit. Like this, some simple-minded people see others aspiring to be born as animals like parrots and rhinoceros horns, which is truly very foolish. Even aspiring to be born in the lower realms such as animals is unnecessary, because each one, through the results of impure actions, will be thrown into those places without needing to strive. So, why strive for Buddhahood (294)? There are about four different explanations for this. But unlike Bodhisattvas, one does not generate the mind of enlightenment for the sake of many sentient beings, but only for one's own liberation, so it is appropriate to say that. The fourth is: Hearers enter the path of the four truths, meditate on the selflessness of persons, cut off the stream of samsara, and aspire to attain the fruit of Arhatship. Hearers also recite: The meaning of the four truths, may I ultimately attain the fruit of Arhatship. So, why are they called Hearers? There appear to be different ways of explaining the meaning of the words, but like solitary Buddhas, not relying on spiritual friends, the noble protector Arya Vasubandhu said: Conduct Chapter.

As it is said, "Those who possess hearing and thought should diligently practice meditation," having taken the Pratimoksha vows as the foundation, and being skilled in the five aggregates, eighteen elements, twelve sources, twelve links of dependent origination, what is and is not the place, etc., entering the path that primarily emphasizes the four noble truths, from the mindfulness of the small accumulation path up to the path of meditation, following the path, thereby, like reaching the peak of enlightenment, one manifests the fruit of the Arhat with twofold wisdom. Thus, when those Arhats of Hearers and Solitary Realizers pass into complete nirvana, abiding in the realm of cessation, their own school believes they remain constant and unmoving. However, according to the Great Vehicle, for as long as they have accumulated merit, for that long their minds dissolve into quiescence. Then, being born in pure lands such as Sukhavati, they take birth in the calyx of a lotus, and due to the power of the subtle imprints of ignorance and the obscuration of knowledge, they remain with the lotus closed for seven years. At that time, by the power of the compassion of the Buddha of that land, the lotus opens and they are awakened from that samadhi. They develop a desire to enter the Great Vehicle, generate bodhicitta, and practice the path, attaining Buddhahood in that very lifetime, as explained in the Lankavatara Sutra and the White Lotus Sutra. It is not that they do not rely on the Buddha's words, (295) but even when attaining the fruit, they rely on and listen to the Buddha's teachings, therefore they are called "Prabaka" or "Hearers." Fifth, may all sentient beings of the three realms properly practice the ten virtuous actions, and by that power, may they attain the temporary happiness of gods and humans, i.e., the position of higher realms, and without entering wrong paths, may they diligently engage in the activities of the ten dharmas and aspire to hold the lifeline of the Buddha's teachings, that is: May all beings of the three realms... until... may they hold the lifeline of the Buddha's teachings. The end. Sixth, praying for the long life and stable governance of the noble individuals who uphold, maintain, and spread the teachings, the virtuous spiritual friends, Vajra brothers and sisters, etc., that is: Those who uphold, maintain, and spread the teachings... until... may the lamp of the teachings remain for a long time. In between. Seventh, may all of us, teachers, disciples, patrons, and offerings,
