Contemporaneous with Orgyenpa. Including more than a dozen Orgyenpas, all were old and long-lived. The disciple of Melongpa was Rigdzin Kumaradza, born in the town of Sarzingkha in Yoru Onpa. He was named Tarpa Gyen. From a young age, he possessed many qualities of noble wealth, such as faith, compassion, and wisdom, and he knew without having learned to read. At the age of seven, he received the empowerment of Hevajra (Tibetan: ཀྱེ་རྡོ་རྗེ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: हेवज्र, Sanskrit Romanization: Hevajra, Literal Chinese meaning: Heyvajra) and Demchok from Lama Gyedorpa of Kongpo Orshod Thoteng Monastery. At the age of nine, he took the complete lay vows from Khenpo Tsangpa. He studied the Dharma cycle of Avalokiteśvara Kordong Truk. At the age of twelve, he was ordained by Khenpo Yerwapa and Abbot Ngariwa of Phagmo Dru. He was named Zhonnu Gyalpo. He studied the Vinaya. From Rinpoche Drak Yewa, he studied the Six Dharmas of Naropa for five years, and from Tsartengpa, he listened to the Compendium of Topics. From Pon Sangshe, he studied crafts. By reciting the six-syllable mantra, he saw a smiling, compassionate Avalokiteśvara in a crystal house. From Khyunnak Shakdar, he requested many Nyingma tantras, transmissions, and instructions. In Dangphuk, he met Melong Dorje. He requested the instructions on Mahamudra, and he recognized the face of mind directly. After that, he went to serve as an attendant to the dakini Ling of Mön, a great accomplished one. He requested the Dharma cycle of Vajravarahi, etc., and practiced it. On the evening of the tenth day, he met Orgyen Padmasambhava. "Ema, son of lineage, always live by the Dharma," he said.

Then he made paintings. He bought paper with two of the four loads of grain given (by others). At night he wrote scriptures. He used half for lamp oil and food. Due to the power of asceticism, he contracted a severe disease. Due to the blessing of faith, special vows arose. The Lama was pleased and received permission to benefit beings. In the empowerment line, he saw the four-armed Avalokiteśvara in the space above the Lama's head, and at the door, Ekajaṭī (Tibetan: ཨེ་ཀ་ཛ་ཊཱི་, Sanskrit Devanagari: एकजटी, Sanskrit Romanization: Ekajaṭī, literal meaning: One-locked Mother), blue in color, holding a staff and a skin bag, about two stories high. Outside, he saw the karmic mothers with bloody hair, scooping up blood with their hands and drinking it. For eight years, he attended the Lama without separation. He spent a winter in the bamboo grove, a practice place of Orgyen (Uḍḍiyāna), where Vajravārāhī appeared to him. From then on, his wisdom increased without obstruction. For a while, he established a hermitage in the mountains of Yarlung Tsarteng and resided there. Later, knowing that the Lama was about to pass away, he went to Kharchu. The Lama's two sons met in Sakya. Later, he established the twenty-fifth day offering. When he went to Tsari, five-colored rainbows appeared on the turquoise stone statue of the goddess Krikmo, etc. Later, Chöje Rangjung Dorje of Tsurphu invited him and offered him the teachings of the Nyingtik. He went to Shang and from Lama Gompa, the lineage holder of Laje Gompa, he requested the secret oral transmission of the secret cycle and the Lamp of the Eye of Meditation. In Dingri Namar, he listened to the mountain teachings of Yang Gonpa from his nephew Jangdrup. He also met Orgyenpa Rangjung Pal. From Marlam Lama Tralungpa, he requested Yamāntaka, Black Enemy, etc. From many spiritual friends such as Lopön Yegön, he learned the secret cycle, the instructions of Götsangpa, the great instructions of Aro, and most of the well-known Dzogchen practices in Tibet. For the sake of Dharma, enduring hardships, he traveled the new Tsari road and stayed alone for eight months by the side of the Turquoise Lake of Nyingma. Great miracles occurred, and he achieved equality in death in his habits, subdued the local deities, and was invited into their palace and honored. Jambhala (Tibetan: ཛམྦྷ་ལ, Sanskrit Devanagari: जम्भल, Sanskrit Romanization: Jambhala, literal meaning: Wealth God) gave him a jewel. He saw five-colored lights like fluff dissolving into the lake. His mind was filled with renunciation and sorrow, and he always stayed in the snow mountains and empty valleys such as Shampo to protect himself from the cold.
