In the chapter on 'Taking Hold,' it says, 'The essence of the Tathagata is like a lamp inside a vase; when the vase breaks, it becomes clear.' This statement also refutes the view that there is no connection between the metaphor and the meaning. The second case is that, just as no one can see the corpse when a dakini or an emanation dies, the dependent body and the dependent awareness are mixed, and on the basis of the present existence, they disappear invisibly like the dust of the body, and the awareness also dissolves into the dharmadhatu and does not return, like a great arrow shot. For example, at Tölung Rong's Drakmar Monastery, Sangye Gonpo, the direct disciple of Vairotsana, and at Wa Sengé Drak, his three lineage disciples, the three incarnations, passed away one after another within a year, as mentioned earlier. The third case is that, although the way of dissolving awareness and the dharmadhatu where liberation takes place are the same when the obscurations of wind and mind are cleared away, just as the life-sustaining fire does not remain after the combustible firewood is burned, the grossness of the aggregates dissolves into a mass of light as the internal elements are exhausted. For example, two disciples of Gyer Gom Shipo turned into a mass of light in the cave of Do Tsen and ascended into the sky. The fourth case is that when vidyadharas rise from one level to another, they go into the sky with sound and light, and manifest inconceivable emanations to benefit others. Similarly, the body born of karmic imprints transforms into a light body, and appears to all beings to guide others. The great yogi and master Le Je Tsun Sengé's footprint, directly above Wo Yug Chi Gong in the sky, dissolved into a mass of light with light and sound. As it says in the 'Union of Sun and Moon Tantra': 'What is the death of a dakini like? Likewise, the death of a vidyadhara is like a fire burning itself out, disappearing into the sky like a garuda. All of this is the self-dissolution of the elements. Invisible and ungraspable, such is the realm of the best of yogis. By becoming accustomed to this, one gains self-mastery.' If, from the perspective of view and practice, one has exhausted the ultimate meaning, there are still great beings who, in order to promote the teachings or simply to benefit sentient beings, do not exhaust the karmic winds through the wheel of action, and after accomplishing their own benefit,

Focusing solely on benefiting beings is a characteristic of the Mahayana. Therefore, even relics and remains, for the sake of benefiting beings, are used to accomplish the deeds of manifest enlightenment. For example, the future Buddha, named Mountain King Lamp, from the stage of learning the path, the ninth, Good Wisdom, shines like immaculate rays of light. Immediately upon mastering the four individual correct knowledges, having perfected abandonment and realization, becoming direct valid cognition, the great Samantabhadra Dharma wheel, inseparable from the Buddha's teachings, can be understood through such a multitude of Dharma teachings. Therefore, such individuals, as a sign of faith in an uncommon tenet, do not rely on inferior divinations. Because they have directly seen the meaning of Suchness, they do not follow after words of conceptual thought. Because they have gained confidence in the nature of reality, which is free from effort, they do not engage in the Dharma of hope and fear. Because they are free from grasping at entities and characteristics, they are not deceived by worldly conformity. Even when sick, they do not resort to divination, medicine, and rituals like ordinary people. Even when dying, they have no hope in things like the forty-nine day rituals and cremation, but like wild animals, they enjoy great, remote hermitages where people do not travel. Like a lion, not fearing anything, they are free from the hope and fear of delighting in being alive and fearing death. Like a bee, even if they die at a crossroads or on a main road, they are not discouraged. Like a child, having no attachment to dying or not dying, these four are due to the purity of the perceived realm. They are signs of obstructing delusion and clinging to reality, as it was said before: Likewise, those with weakened senses, the way of dying like a wild animal, is the way of dying of a father yogi. Likewise, like a lion, and like a bee, likewise dying like a child, is the death of a middling yogi. And so on. Such individuals have transcended the Dharma of view and meditation, so whether it is the sudden death of a Bodhisattva's transference of consciousness, or the transference after the gradual dissolution of the five outer, inner, and secret elements, in either case, the consciousness dissolves into space. When space dissolves into the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu, the five vital energies enter the wisdom at the center of the heart, and the wisdom reverses to its fundamental ground, reaching the primordial, original state of purity. Therefore, the separation of the physical body and wisdom and the attainment of enlightenment occur simultaneously, so there is no need for funerary rites or death rituals, etc.
