These (deities) merely take the support of the desire realm as a basis, manifest their minds, enjoy perfect bliss in the self-manifest pure Akanishta, and ultimately, in order to tame the great bodhisattvas on the bhumis, manifest the Sambhogakaya. For impure beings, they manifest the form of enlightenment as emanations in countless billions of Jambudvipa continents, repeatedly benefiting sentient beings. Some Shravaka Aryas are born among the gods of the Pure Abodes and become Arhats. Others, based on the support of the desire realm, manifest their minds and become Arhats. If these nine meditative absorptions are not grasped by special means, then when the minds of the four dhyanas and the formless realms arise, because they are attached to the samadhi of their own level, they will not be reborn in the lower realms due to hatred. Because they are accustomed to regarding the upper realms as peaceful and clinging to objects of desire, they will be reborn in the upper realms. Even after being born there, they cannot realize emptiness through their own self-aware wisdom like the Aryas, because in the alaya, there is a latent aspect of self-grasping that cannot be manifested, so they will again endlessly wander in samsara. As the teacher Aryadeva said: All meditative accomplishments such as Brahma, etc., because they do not see the latent self-grasping, is there no possibility of being born in hell after death? The Aryas regard these minds merely as a path to special wisdom, but because they are grasped by true vipassana, the cause of samsara is exhausted, and thus they attain nirvana. Therefore, the path of Atiyoga is the pinnacle of all vehicles, so when explaining the lower realms, it is described in a way that eliminates wrong paths and obscurations. Its essence is the wisdom of vipassana, the non-conceptual dharmata. Therefore, if the characteristics of the formless realm mind are not determined, then most of those who presume to meditate on the profound suchness are merely paying lip service to the views of Mahamadhyamaka, Mahamudra, or Atiyoga, and are attached to and complacent about them, but from the perspective of the way of realization, they are no different from ordinary beings of samsara. Therefore, its nature must be determined, just like this, being single-pointedly absorbed in the samadhi of great fruition.

If the clear intrinsic radiance is not found, when the flow of sense objects ceases, the nature of awareness that appears like the sky without ceasing, if one steadily cultivates contemplating it in the mind, it is the mind of the sphere of infinite space. By becoming accustomed to that state, even if one contemplates the meaning of the infinite clear appearance of awareness as described by the Mind-Only school, because the purity of the six consciousnesses has ceased and is stable, it is the mind of the sphere of infinite consciousness. Having become accustomed to this, even that subtle feeling of knowing as Mind-Only disappears, and like a deep sleep, nothing is seen anywhere, this is the mind of nothingness. Like that, the mind that grasps at mere nothingness, for that mind that is not established in either existence or non-existence, a dense non-conceptualization pervades, this is called the sphere of neither existence nor non-existence, which is the mind of the peak of existence. Like that, if one becomes accustomed to any of these four minds and dies in that state, one will be born in those four formless realms. The third is cessation: By blocking feelings and perceptions, one obtains the samadhi of blocking worldly feelings and perceptions, this is called cessation, because in the womb of the complete cessation of mental proliferation, the qualities of awareness have been latently carried over as habitual tendencies. If divided, there is cessation after examining through intellectual analysis, and cessation without examination, which is free from conceptualization. I will explain separately the cessation through examination and non-examination. The first, in the commentary on the "Entering the Middle Way" it says: Here, cessation is for the sake of ceasing the proliferation of the mind. The second, although the nature of reality does not conceptualize, from the aspect of intrinsic wisdom, because the compassion without object continuously arises, it benefits sentient beings. As it says in the "Entering the Middle Way": Although it is always meditation that realizes cessation, greater compassion arises for beings without protectors. As quoted before. Like that, these nine meditative minds, for beginners, there is no autonomy not to arise. If they arise, and are grasped by a special method, then temporarily the clinging to the truth of things will be reversed, the manifestation of afflictions will be suppressed, gradually generating clairvoyance and super-knowledge, etc., and ultimately from the correct wisdom of the great perfection of the complete nature, the self-arisen wisdom free from elaboration, where the conceptual mind of existence and non-existence cannot abide, will be directly realized, thus becoming the cause for obtaining omniscience.
