Like moonlight entering through a window, focus your attention on that and adjust your natural posture. As it says in the continuum of the Vast Expanse of Sky, maintain awareness at the moment of waking up and falling asleep: "If you clearly remind yourself that sleep is meditation, Then at the times of waking up and falling asleep, If you remember the Dharmakaya as a sesame seed, It is like placing it in a precious gau box." Thus, through diligent practice, even if it is not a state of unconsciousness in deep sleep, nor a state of dreaming, in that intermediate state, if a clear and lucid awareness like a cloudless sky occasionally arises, then it is the beginning of realizing luminosity. In general, luminosity is distinguished from the perspective of the three aspects of ground, path, and fruition. Firstly, in the desire realm, there is the consciousness of the coarse seven aggregates, in the form realm, there is the subtle alaya consciousness, and in the formless realm, there is the extremely subtle alaya-only consciousness. Because these consciousnesses are dominant, luminosity is obscured, and one does not recognize oneself, thus samsara is established. Like this, the luminosity of the nature of reality, the luminosity of sleep, and the luminosity of death are all present whether one meditates on them or not, therefore they are called the ground luminosity. Secondly, through the power of meditating on the path, the aggregates of consciousness become purified, and one realizes that all phenomena are unborn, this is the luminosity of general meaning. In the three states of deep sleep and death, the winds and mind gather and dissolve into the central channel, and the four emptinesses that arise from this are recognized experientially, this is the hidden meaning, or the luminosity awakened by the wisdom of clear seeing, which is exemplified by a clear sky. Even the subtle dualistic appearances, like illusions, are purified, and one directly realizes the extremely non-conceptual wisdom, these are all the luminosities of the path time, which are the unmistaken objects of meditation. From this, the state of no-more-learning, the union of two truths, is manifested, and this is merely labeled as the fruition luminosity. In reality, luminosity is the path of newly seeing the noble truths, and the union of two truths is only the state of Buddhahood. Therefore, in these stages of the path, it is best to recognize the luminosity that arises after gaining the experience of increasing appearance, where all coarse and subtle appearances of objects cease, like a clear sky, this is the main practice of the path.

If the habit of that (luminosity) becomes very stable, then the luminosity itself will appear as nearly attained, and the four emptinesses, etc., will appear in reverse order. Therefore, one should strive to recognize the reverse order from the arising of the forward order. Those of middling capacity may not necessarily manifest the four emptinesses in sequence, but when deep sleep clears and there is no dreaming, due to various causes such as the power of intention and the power of wind, the appearance of subtle and gross objects has not ceased. Therefore, like a state of not having fallen asleep, merely recognizing the mind as clear, empty, and non-conceptual is a faint luminosity. Moreover, that often arises mixed with dreams. Those of inferior capacity, in the state of deep sleep, in various circumstances, without dreaming, but like lighting a butter lamp inside a vase, recognize a clear and bright light, that is the luminosity of experience. No matter how it is recognized, temporarily hold it as something that easily generates experience, and ultimately place the luminosity of the path shown above, literally, on the nature of the three. Then the nature of ignorant sleep will be purified into luminosity, and the fruit of non-learning union will be achieved. As it is said in the Root Tantra of Manjushri: Ignorance is the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu, all the greatest names, because ignorance is a friend. Nowadays, very few people can abide in single-pointed concentration, so sorrow increases. Most of those who claim to have recognized luminosity are actually mixing the continuous state of single-pointed attention with sleep. Some only appear as faint luminosity and the luminosity of experience. Therefore, their essence is merely the sleep of bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality, and therefore it is not transcendence of the three realms. Therefore, the necessity of luminosity is to ascertain the nature of the four emptinesses at the time of death, thereby freely obtaining the luminosity without objects, and transforming death into the path of Dharmakaya. Therefore, during the day, generate the four emptinesses of the wind dissolving into the central channel and abide in luminosity, and during sleep, recognize the naturally arising four emptinesses and abide in luminosity. These two should help each other, thereby increasing strength. This place temporarily subdues the conceptual thoughts of grasping and being grasped, burns karma and afflictions along with habitual tendencies, and ultimately attains the union of mother and child luminosity, achieving the non-learning union.
