Because pure awareness lacks the basis of karma and habitual patterns, it does not form into the two kinds of ripened results, good and bad. At that time, it is impossible to know how both nirvana, which is considered beneficial by virtue, and samsara, which is considered harmful by sin, arise. As it says in "The Complete Lion's Roar": "Self-awareness is primordially immutable, good and evil cannot bind me. For that which is without self-originated causes and conditions, there is no need to practice contrived Dharma." So, one might ask, from where do these solid dharmas that appear as samsara and nirvana arise from the ripening of good and evil? For those who do not understand this, a confused appearance arises, creating samsara and nirvana as real, and clinging to the length of the confused appearance that arises, they view it as self, and from good and bad actions, and the habits and familiarity of those, things appear even though they are not there. The sutra says that nirvana is like a dream, like an illusion. In the "Questions of the Noble Near One," it says: "I have shown the terror of the mind as hell, and although I have made many thousands of beings feel sorrow, those beings who die and transmigrate to the lower realms, those migrations have never existed. Those who wield swords, great arrows, and weapons, those who inflict harm are also not real, seeing the body fall, but there are no weapons there. Various pleasing flowers bloom, and golden mansions blaze with beauty, but there is no doer there either, these are established by the power of thought. By the power of thought, all the worlds are measured, and by grasping at concepts, children are distinguished. Grasping and non-grasping have not arisen either, it is entirely like illusory contemplation." So it is said. Fifth, since the nature of self-originated wisdom is not established in anything, it pervades all of samsara and nirvana without partiality, but since appearance is not conceptualized, it is not limited to being real. It is not limited to emptiness as unreal. Since it is neither of the two, it does not fall into the category of union. Its essence is emptiness, therefore it is free from the extreme of permanence. The manifestation of its energy is unceasing, therefore it is free from the extreme of annihilation. Since it does not conceptualize the object, it is outer emptiness. Since it does not cling to the subject, it is inner emptiness. Since it does not impute to either, it is emptiness of emptiness. The view that transcends the attachment to the characteristics and nature of phenomena, like the sky, is called great emptiness, which is the name and meaning of the Great Perfection of self-nature.

Being in that state. Therefore, emptiness is the wisdom that is nearly attained, so it implies the meaning of completion, and greatness is the meaning of inconceivability. As it is said in the Ocean: "Light is of four kinds, from completion to the ground of great wisdom, appearance is non-conceptual, expansion is the illusion of wisdom, attainment is the noble path of the noble ones, and completion is due to near attainment." And as it is said in the Kun Byed: "O, I am the Kun Byed Gyalpo, the Bodhicitta. Since I have no place for slander or denial, do not think or meditate on anything. Leave the three doors uncorrected, just as they are. Howsoever it arises, it is naturally liberated. Like the unborn sky, it transcends directions. Know it as the Great Perfection of self-nature." Thus it is. Sixth, from the state of one's own awareness, which is like the sky, one does not abandon any attachment to the various appearances of dependent origination and dependent phenomena that appear to the mind. Although the nature of the essence is not established in anything, the basis of dependence for the play of various minds is not reversed, so the door of appearance that appears as dependent phenomena is not obstructed. However it appears, if it does not move from the beginning of non-birth, then it is not beyond the unobstructed magical display, the play of the wisdom of the victorious ones, so from the vehicle of the gods and humans that remains as it is, to all the desires and attachments of the philosophical tenets between the Great Perfection that is free from extremes, are also various, like various images appearing in a single mirror, so nothing is obstructed. Because it is made by the mind, nothing is established, so it does not adhere to its own nature. It has not adhered. All of that has neither bestowed benefit nor brought harm. Let whatever it is be. It does not transcend what is or is not, and is in the vast and boundless state of mind. Because it is not stained by maturation and karma, it is enlightened from the realm of samsara and nirvana. As it is said in the Kun Byed: "All dharmas are Bodhicitta, and the example of that is like the nature of the sky. The meaning of Bodhicitta is also the same. The five elements of sky, wind, water, and fire, from Bodhicitta, wondrously manifest enlightenment. The appearance of the three realms, the five paths, and the six realms, the immutable manifest enlightenment of maturation and karma. The three realms are primordially the body, speech, and mind of Bodhi. Therefore, all of appearance and existence, the container and its contents, like the non-abiding absence in the sky, the great space of Bodhicitta is a great channel, and all the Buddhas, sentient beings, containers and contents abide therein."
