When praising the tenets that speak of Dharma, they say: From what action do the virtuous arise? The wonder lies in that very thing. Those who are not virtuous become arrogant, Alas! The world is truly wondrous! Having reproached in this way, look at that great Brahmin. If those who are powerful and living become worthy of offerings, Then bears, leopards, and tigers, All beings would always be objects of worship. By refuting the tenets of the lamas with these and other statements, and by proclaiming the qualities of the Thus-Gone One, They developed manifest faith in the Buddha. The Brahmin, the invincible Black One, through seeing the volumes of the scriptures, awakened his karma and regretted his lack of merit. Recognizing that his own views and tenets were mistaken, he entered the Buddhist path, becoming like the crest jewel of all who speak of knowledge, the teacher Hero. Therefore, in this present age, viewing the sutras is not as nourishing as faith. Even just the Teacher's Jataka tales and the Mahayana sutra, the Ornament of Dense Array, will undoubtedly generate faith that makes the hairs stand on end. Among these, the faith of conviction is: Seeing that the characteristics of the Dharma and the ethics of holy individuals, or their wisdom and roots of virtue, are not wasted, and then having delight in them, rejoicing after them, and being together with joyful desire. The faith of aspiration is: Knowing the characteristics of the truth of suffering, fearing the wheel of birth and death, and knowing that the holy Dharma, the truth of cessation and the path, which protects from that, and the lama who shows it, are relied upon, like a bee longing for a flower. The faith of confidence is: From the depths of one's heart, having certainty about the qualities of the Three Jewels, and believing that they will not deceive, so that whether one is an ordinary being or a noble one, even the happiness that is the aspect of a serene feeling is seen as the grace of the Three Jewels, and even the subtle aspect of a painful feeling that arises in the continuum of an Arhat is known as one's own karma, without any doubt. The irreversible faith is: In general, the activities of hearing, thinking, and meditating, and especially in the situation of taking refuge, when faced with unfavorable conditions such as disease, harm, suffering, and the violence of enemies and obstructing spirits, and whatever great things may occur

Even if it turns into saltwater, it will not turn back into freshwater. In India, a Buddhist layperson was captured by non-Buddhists and threatened, "Give up your gods and views, join our sect, or we will kill you." The layperson replied, "I can verbally agree to your demands, but I will never give up in my heart." In the end, he lost his life because of this. Therefore, the first two situations are the faith of a beginner, which is easily taken away by external circumstances, while the latter two situations are the correct objects of aspiration. Furthermore, there are four causes for generating faith: relying on holy beings, associating with virtuous friends, recollecting the Three Jewels, and contemplating the faults of samsara as being meaningless. Once you rely on a holy being who possesses qualities, because your nature will tend to align with the path you rely on, you will be in agreement. In addition, the holy being will guide you onto the path in various ways, so you should listen to their actions and practices extensively. Because these are the causes for increasing faith, it is said in the *Bodhisattva Pitaka Sutra*: "Having faith means having strong faith in higher realms, relying on virtuous friends, desiring to see holy beings, desiring to hear the Dharma, believing in karma and its results, and recognizing Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Shravakas, etc., as virtuous friends, thereby relying on and pleasing them with faith." Similarly, associating with people who have faith, their actions will naturally influence you. For example, the physician Jivaka caused King Bimbisara to have faith by praising the qualities of the teacher. Because an impartial mind brings benefit, and speech has the essence of truth. As it is said in the *Ten Dharma Sutra*: "Whoever guides, arises from that, faith is the supreme of vehicles, therefore, a wise person should rely on those who follow faith." Recalling the Three Jewels increases faith because the Three Jewels have immeasurable qualities, which will be explained later. It is also said in the *Moon Essence Sutra*: "The faith of firmly believing in the Three Jewels is like a wish-fulfilling jewel." Even so, each
