Transformation. If there is a mind, then take refuge in it, praise it, honor it, and abide in its teachings. Thus it is said. Therefore, if one takes refuge in the teacher Buddha, and his teachings, the sacred Dharma, and the Shravakas and Bodhisattva Sangha who practice it, one will not be deceived. Therefore, in the "Seventy Verses on Refuge," it is also said: The Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha are the refuge of those who desire liberation. Thus it is said. This is also determined to be the beginning of the path. If one rushes into the teachings, one will not be able to attain the higher path without the merits of the lower path having arisen. Therefore, in the Nirvana Sutra, it is said: Just like the steps of a ladder, my profound teachings are also, gradually learn and diligently practice, do not rush, and eventually it will be stable. As it is said. Moreover, for the external limbs or causes of self-protection, the Buddha himself has already accomplished them completely, without any lack. However, the internal limbs, without focusing the mind on it, and holding the power of refuge, therefore children suffer. In the "Praise of the Praiseworthy," it is said: The power of all external limbs, you have truly accomplished, but the internal powers are not complete, therefore children rely on suffering. Thus it is said. To show that meaning, the path and merits for going to liberation, as a support and vessel, the vow is not deceiving, refuge itself, before that, it is important to understand the qualities of the teacher and the teachings. After teaching in this way, like this, the teacher has great compassion, therefore the path to liberation, the three trainings, and the qualities of abandonment and realization, without any omission, as a support and vessel, without any lack, having first accomplished it completely, for the vow that is worthy of being a refuge, is not deceiving, for oneself, the internal limbs, from the depths of the heart, holding the main cause of refuge, is to understand the qualities of the teacher and the teachings themselves, which is important first. After understanding in that way, from the initial trust, the way to guide the mind. The root of all dharmas is trust, which is not indicated in the mind of a person, seeing the teacher and reading the scriptures, it arises like the clinging of hair from a tree. Among them, the first is the trust of faith, similarly, desire and conviction do not turn back, from the four aspects.

In this state of approaching, Even if life is at stake, one must not turn back. The root of all happiness and well-being is faith, as stated in the Sutra of the Jewel Heap: "Faith is like a mother, giving rise to all virtues, protecting and increasing them; dispelling doubts and delivering from all rivers; faith is the symbol of a city of happiness; faith is without defilement and pleases the mind; abandoning pride, it is the root of respect; faith is the best of wealth, treasure, and feet; like a hand, it is the root of accumulating virtue." As it is said, all virtues must first be cultivated by relying on faith. With the arising of faith, all white dharmas gather in advance, so it is also the first of the seven noble riches. As much as faith increases, so much does the accumulation of goodness and virtue increase. When it diminishes, all pure aspects also diminish like the moon being eclipsed by Rahu. In general, those of noble lineage and with good fortune tend to have innate faith. As stated in the Garland of Jewels: "Because one has faith, one relies on the Dharma; because one has wisdom, one knows correctly. Of these two, wisdom is the main one, and faith is its precursor." So it is said. However, in the Sutra Requested by the Dragon King of the Ocean, it is said: "A person with faith is rare because they are far superior to others." As it is said, due to the causes and conditions of interdependence, for those lineages that have not yet awakened from the causes and conditions, and especially for ordinary people, like the disappearance of awareness in sleep, the proximity of faith is mostly in an unpredicted state. Therefore, to awaken faith, causes and methods are essential. Thus, seeing our teacher, who is not in conflict with us, or his representative, as well as seeing the images of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, hearing their qualities, and reading the scriptures, etc., are all causes for nourishing faith. For example, when the elephant keeper of King Ajatashatru saw the Blessed One, his mind of anger and violence was pacified. Also, when merchants from the land of Gandhara went to a destroyed city, the Brahmins thought, "These are Buddhist lay practitioners," and laughed at them, rebuking them, "You do not know the qualities of the Great God, you are foolish and ignorant people."
