Completely distinguishing and thoroughly purifying, one will not become blind, nor will one become deaf, all senses will become clear. (End of quote) It is said in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: Those who wish to destroy the hundreds of sufferings of existence, those who wish to eliminate the unhappiness of sentient beings, and those who wish to enjoy hundreds of great pleasures, should never abandon the mind of enlightenment. In order to explain its characteristics, for whom there is no thought for one's own benefit, just as one longs for food when hungry and water when thirsty, seeking the state of Buddhahood solely for the benefit of sentient beings, this is called the mind of enlightenment. Here, the path of a great person is completely controlled by great compassion. Merely aiming for temporary higher rebirth for one's own benefit, or not regarding this greatness as great, but aiming for the future result of happiness, is the mind of a lesser person. And the path of a middling person, who has the mind of a Hearer or Solitary Realizer, aiming only for the liberation of oneself from cyclic existence, deviates from these two. Just as our teacher initially generated the mind of enlightenment, accumulated merit in the middle, and finally attained perfect enlightenment and taught the Dharma, all of this was accomplished for the benefit of sentient beings alone. Similarly, abandoning one's own benefit, in order to bring an end to the suffering of all sentient beings, just as a hungry person seeks food and a person suffering from a fever longs for water, wanting to attain Buddhahood by training in the six perfections and the two stages of the path, this is the characteristic of the supreme intention, the precious mind of enlightenment. Lord Maitreya said: Generating the mind is for the sake of others, wanting to attain perfect and complete enlightenment. (End of quote) Therefore, a person who possesses the mind of enlightenment is a Mahāyāna practitioner, and merely separating from it, one departs from the Mahāyāna. Since one also abandons the main part of the cause for realizing emptiness, even if there are other aspects of qualities such as understanding the knowable of conventions and thinking that one has realized the profound meaning that is only the realm of foolish meditation, one will still fall into the Lesser Vehicle. Hearers and Solitary Realizers also have some love and compassion, because they do not have the courage to take upon themselves the burden of benefiting limitless sentient beings and eliminating suffering. As it is said in the Ratnāvalī: The Hearer Vehicle...

Furthermore, how could one become a Bodhisattva through a summary of the vows and practices of a Bodhisattva? It is said. Thus, although the burden of liberating sentient beings has arisen, in the present situation, I cannot even fully accomplish the benefit of one sentient being. Therefore, even if I were to become a Chakravartin or Brahma, I could not. Therefore, even if I were to abide in the state of two Arhats, I could only liberate a few sentient beings from samsara, but I could not establish them in omniscience. Therefore, the ability to accomplish all the temporary and ultimate benefits of limitless beings is only possessed by the Buddha. Therefore, for the benefit of all sentient beings, generate the desire to attain the state of perfect Buddhahood. As the teacher Aryadeva said: If oneself and this world wish to attain unsurpassed Bodhi, its root, the Bodhicitta, is as stable as the king of mountains. As it is said. Now, in order to show the nature of generating the mind, the difference between aspiration and engagement. That is, the mind of aspiration is to vow for the result, what is to be learned is equality and exchange of self and others, and the three of cherishing others more than oneself, is also the essence of what is to be learned, its nature, truly abides in the four immeasurables such as loving-kindness. Vowing for the cause is the mind of entering, its learning is the six perfections, relying on the pure places of conduct. As it is said in the Sutra Requested by Maitreya: Maitreya, wishing for the benefit of others is also great loving-kindness, great compassion, great joy, and great equanimity. And truly practicing it is also the six perfections. It is said. Among them, the mind of aspiration is to desire to attain Bodhi, therefore learning its learning, vowing for the result. Entering is actually practicing its Dharma, therefore vowing for the cause. As it is said in the Avatamsaka Sutra: Noble son, among the assemblies of sentient beings, the most difficult to obtain is the unsurpassed perfect Bodhicitta. More difficult than this is the Dharma of manifesting entry into the unsurpassed perfect Bodhicitta. The teacher Shantideva compared this meaning to an example: Bodhicitta, in brief, should be known to be of two types, namely, the aspiring Bodhicitta and.
